Clinical Information Systems Director directs and coordinates implementation, design, and maintenance of clinical nursing information systems used to improve nursing operations. Conducts analysis to understand the needs of nursing staff and develop systems and strategy that supports and optimizes patient care and aligns with organizational objectives. Being a Clinical Information Systems Director researches and evaluates new technologies and tools used to provide new sources of data and streamline nursing practices. Plans the implementation, communication, and training for new technology deployments. Additionally, Clinical Information Systems Director requires a master's degree in nursing. Requires Registered Nurse (RN) license. Typically reports to top management. The Clinical Information Systems Director manages a departmental function within a broader corporate function. Develops major goals to support broad functional objectives. Approves policies developed within various sub-functions and departments.   • JOB SUMMARY
     
    Under the direct supervision of the Chief Information Officer, this position is responsible leadership within the clinical analyst team.  Serves as project manager for clinical applications and related projects.  Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all clinical applications.  Cross-trains with other analysts and rotates on call.  Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience.  Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient- and family-centered care. 
      
     
    PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
    1. Supervises and mentors all clinical analysts and EHR staff.
    2. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of all clinical applications and systems.
    3. Serves as project manager for all clinical system projects. 
    4. Reviews, evaluates and implements requests from user departments.
    5. Directly responsible for the management and maintenance of a subset of systems shared with clinical analysts. 
    6. Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to analyze problems, determine cause and initiate corrective action.
    7. Maintains a high level of interaction with all clinical areas to continually enhance/improve patient are and the end-user experience. 
    8. Shares on-call duties with other individuals within Information Services.
    9. Coordinates and participates in both internal and external user group functions. 
    10. Demonstrates an independent work initiative, sound judgement, diplomacy, tact and professional demeanor.
    11. Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior. 
    12. Has a working knowledge of all software modules of the HIS, has in-depth knowledge of selected modules shared with analyst staff.
    13. Stays current with technology through seminars, educational opportunities, and trade magazines.
    14. Other duties as assigned. 
       
      JOB SPECIFICATIONS
       
      EDUCATION

           1. Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare, Information Technology or related field.

                EXPERIENCE
    1. 5 years of experience working with EHR systems.
    2. Leadership or supervision experience preferred. 
    3. MEDITECH or Epic experience preferred.
    4. Database administration knowledge preferred. 
    5. Experience in inter- and intra-departmental communications required. Highly effective and proven customer service skills required.
    6. Healthcare experience required.
