Clinical Nurse Specialist serves as a clinical expert providing teaching, mentoring, consulting, research, and systems improvement in a specific practice area or with a specific patient population. Coordinates and guides clinical activities/projects of nurses within a practice area. Being a Clinical Nurse Specialist collaborates with members of the health care team to design and implement safe, cost-effective, and evidence-based care strategies. May require a master's degree in nursing. Additionally, Clinical Nurse Specialist requires Registered Nurse (RN) License. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Clinical Nurse Specialist manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Job Summary
Assumes responsibility for staff development programs in collaboration with the Nursing division and Human Resources, including but not limited to annual skills fair, development of focused educational programs and working with vendors to arranged inservice education on new equipment. Functions to support and maintain continuing competency based credentialing of Samaritan staff, including development, revision, and validation of required competencies. Collaborates with staff and nursing leadership to advance nursing practice through innovative evidence-based research, including development and maintenance of policies and procedures. Promotes role competence, learning and change. Facilitates the nursing orientation program of new employees. Onboards agency staff. Promotes and maintains cooperative working relationships with all departments and maintains flexibility within the role based on ongoing organizational need.
Minimum Education Requirement:
Master’s degree in Nursing/Education required.
Minimum Experience Requirement:
Three years of clinical experience required. Experience in supervision, curriculum development and instructional design desired. Demonstrates knowledge of adult education principles, learner-centered training, needs assessment and performance evaluation. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills required. Must be highly motivated, creative, self-directed, articulate, and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. Must possess a comprehensive broad based knowledge and the ability to interact with and educate all levels of learners within the Samaritan organization. Must have the ability to utilize a variety of educational tools and equipment.
Minimum License Requirement :
Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State. Basic Life Support certification required at time of hire. Attainment of Six Sigma Greenbelt certification within 2 years of hire.
