JOB SUMMARY:
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services is responsible for the leadership, direction, and coordination of clinical pharmacy services. This includes establishing, promoting, and continuously monitoring/evaluating the goals and outcomes, while achieving alignment with the strategic vision and metrics for the organization.
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services will develop policies and procedures, implement quality improvement initiatives, and establish activities to ensure the provision of safe, effective, and economical pharmacotherapy. Clinical activities include collaborating with other healthcare professionals, involvement in a variety of clinical care activities and medication management initiatives for chronic care conditions including but not limited to HIV, Hepatitis C, metabolic syndrome, anticoagulation therapy, and behavioral health. This position will lead Clinical Pharmacy Specialists and related staff to expand, integrate, and sustain clinical services.
The Director of Clinical Pharmacy Services serves as the programmatic and operational leader for Clinical Pharmacy services, working closely with a variety of departments, Senior Leadership Team, and key stakeholders to process improve across the organization and through future integration efforts.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication
• Serves as a liaison to clinical programs and other medication-related processes within Chase Brexton Health Care.
•Editor of and responsible for dissemination of the Pharmacy Department newsletter
•Collaborate and communicate with healthcare providers, extended leaders, and other support departments to advance patient care.
•Lead Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee (and other related committees) preparation under the direction of the Chief Pharmacy and Strategy Officer.
Performance Management
•Designs, develops, and manages clinic initiatives with support of collaborative practice and measurable outcomes.
•Develops and implements innovative systems and processes that improve staff, patient quality, and medication safety.
•Monitor data for quality improvement related to pharmacy and clinical support functions, including grant metrics.
•Provide management and oversight of the Prior Authorization Department and clinical pharmacy staff.
Resource, Staff and Budget
•In concert with pharmacy leadership, will collaborate and manage annual budget for the department.
•Assists in the preparation of proposals and other related needs to secure grant-funded opportunities to expand/enhance services.
•Directs and provides guidance to staff to effectively allocate resources based on patient needs, clinical outcomes, and program goals.
•Responsible for overseeing the department’s staff selection processes, including developing training materials/programs, while ensuring that staff receives appropriate training.
Strategic Leadership
•Leads and/or assists in planning, coordinating, and implementing clinical pharmacy programs, projects, and services.
•Leads and/or assists in the development of policy, procedures, and protocols that support organizational goals and are in accordance with regulatory agency guidelines.
•Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of clinical programs to ensure alignment with strategic goals and performance standards.
•In concert with pharmacy leadership, maintain drug formulary needs and manage nonformulary requests as appropriate.
•Provide leadership in the absence of the Pharmacy Directors.
Workgroup Effectiveness
•Oversees the professional and clinical development of pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
•Participate in on-site clinical/department meetings, and committees as appropriate.
•Participates as a key member of the Pharmacy Leadership Team and the Extended Leadership Team.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
•PharmD degree required.
•Completion of PGY-1 pharmacy residency and PGY-2 pharmacy residency or postdoctoral fellowship training.
•Knowledge of HIV disease and other chronic disease states.
•Board certified specialist (i.e.: BCPS) and HIV specialty pharmacist (AAHIVP) certification preferred
•At least 5 years clinical experience in an inpatient and/or ambulatory care setting.
•Minimum of 2 years of previous management and/or clinical coordinator experience.
•Current professional license to practice pharmacy in the state of Maryland.
