Cloud Systems Architect is responsible for the design and management of an organization's cloud systems, applications, policies, and strategy. Evaluates and identifies the best cloud solutions for the organization. Being a Cloud Systems Architect develops and modifies scalable architecture to support applications and infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) and platform-as-a-service (PAAS) platforms. Ensures the security and compliance of cloud environments, including data protection and privacy. Additionally, Cloud Systems Architect monitors and analyzes cloud infrastructure performance to identify and resolve issues proactively. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to optimize cloud-based environments for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness. Designs controls and processes that utilize available audit tools. Maintains up-to-date and extensive knowledge of cloud products and technology. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Cloud Systems Architect works autonomously. Goals are generally communicated in "solution" or project goal terms. May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.     • The plurality of this role is designed to:
    • Develop technical strategies, architectures, and best practices to enable product extensibility and scalability into the coming decade with an approach that maintains business and product continuity and performance.
    • Sponsor and contribute to a culture of learning and technical excellence.
    • Build an in-depth understanding of company and customer needs to define and develop business appropriate solutions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    • Serve as software subject matter expert, providing architectural designs for solutions to address specific business needs.
    • Gain intimate familiarity with product and features, including code, architecture, technology, topology, patterns, etc.
    • Evaluate and select appropriate software or hardware and suggest integration methods.
    • Mitigate project risk by constructing proof of concept models during early phases of project planning.
    • Review and feedback of high-level business/functional requirements documentation.
    • Assist in distilling high-level requirements to detailed, actionable information.
    • Analysis of technical trade-offs as an output of solution development.
    • Provide technical mentorship, coaching and advice to development team members.
    • Document and assist in defining development best practices and standards.
    • Participate in development estimating, planning and prioritizing activities.
    • Champion for continuous improvement and sustainment of team processes.
    • Assist in identifying areas of technical debt and advocating for their prioritization.
    • Advocate for continuous improvement to SDLC processes.
    • Collaborate with Director of Development to define shared ownership model for all technical aspects of interfacing with and working within the development teams.
    • Stay current with industry trends, technology and practices and encourage pragmatic means of technical adoption.
    • Daily software development tasks where appropriate.

    QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

    • Proven experience as Software Architect, 10 years' experience in software development.
    • Experience in developing for both SaaS and on-premises deployment models.
    • Experience in transitioning a product from legacy to next generation architecture and technology.
    • Experience in architecting and developing B2B2C software solutions.
    • Experience with Agile and Kanban methodologies.
    • Experience with Shape Up methodology a plus.
    • Experience in SOA architectures and OOP design principles.
    • Full-stack proficiency.
    • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
    • Able to clearly document interactions and information.
    • Familiar with Progress OpenEdge ABL a plus.
    • Experience with open-source technologies a plus.
    • Technical degree or certification preferred.
    • Experience with Windows technologies preferred.
    • Experience with RDMS and Document stores preferred.

    ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

    • Full-Time, salaried position.
    • Hours are primarily 8a – 5pm Monday – Friday with infrequent off-hour rotation in support of VS on-call staff (evenings, weekends/holidays).
    • Opportunity for travel is possible with technical user group and/or business conference attendance.
