Coding Compliance Specialist jobs in Arizona
Coding Compliance Specialist researches and develops the pre-certification insurance policy standards and criteria used by case management and utilization reviewers that will ensure that requested medical services are appropriate and medically necessary. Collaborates with medical professionals to resolve questions about policy development and standards. Being a Coding Compliance Specialist assigns correct ICD, CPT, or other coding assignments for medical procedures that support policy standards in claims systems. Provides expertise and solutions to users regarding the appropriate coding for claims. Additionally, Coding Compliance Specialist has broad knowledge of medical coding systems. May require an associate degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). May alternatively require Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Coding Compliance Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. To be a Coding Compliance Specialist typically requires 2 -4 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

MINIMUM SPECIFICATIONS
Education:
- Must be a graduate of a Health Information Management program and successfully completed an approved Coding educational program.
Experience:
- Must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) plus six years of review/coding experience;
- OR, must be a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) plus six years of review/coding experience;
- OR, must be a Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), Certified Professional Coder (CPC),or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H) with eight years of review coding experience.
Certification/Registration/Licensure:
- Must be a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC),or Certified Professional Coder-Hospital (CPC-H).
Skills or Special Abilities:
- Must be able to demonstrate time management, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Must be proficient and demonstrate and advanced knowledge in ICD-10-CM and CPT/HCPCS coding and abstracting and have an advanced clinical knowledge of medical terminology, disease process and pharmacology.
- Must score a minimum of 90% on a pre-employment coding test.
- Must have strong skills in diplomacy, professionalism and trustworthiness.
- Must be able to demonstrate excellent computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheet and database management software proficiency.
- Must be able to pass a nationwide criminal background check.
- Must be able to pass preliminary drug test and comply with random drug test conducted twice a year.
