Coding Compliance Specialist researches and develops the pre-certification insurance policy standards and criteria used by case management and utilization reviewers that will ensure that requested medical services are appropriate and medically necessary. Collaborates with medical professionals to resolve questions about policy development and standards. Being a Coding Compliance Specialist assigns correct ICD, CPT, or other coding assignments for medical procedures that support policy standards in claims systems. Provides expertise and solutions to users regarding the appropriate coding for claims. Additionally, Coding Compliance Specialist has broad knowledge of medical coding systems. May require an associate degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). May alternatively require Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Coding Compliance Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Role and Responsibilities:

    As part of the role, you will be expected to:

    • Audit medical charts that have been coded by an autonomous coding engine against national coding guidelines and client-specific SOPs, using Nym’s proprietary coding and auditing software to ensure high accuracy; specifically, you will audit ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, modifiers, and provider attribution
    • Participate in client implementations and serve as a subject matter expert for internal Product and R&D groups to help prioritize engine configuration and development.
    • Join customer calls and serve as a subject matter expert, helping to ensure customers understand the nuances of autonomous coding capabilities.
    • Meet or exceed the 95% accuracy threshold and production standards and demonstrate a thorough knowledge of coding guidelines, medical terminology & peer-reviewed references.
    • Keep a current education and understanding of coding principles and guidelines as they are updated; assist the team in monitoring current industry trends for potential impacts on the configuration of the Nym coding engine.




    Requirements:
    • At least 5 years as an multispecialty outpatient surgical coder for hospital/facilities. Profee experience in Evaluation and Management is a plus..
    • A minimum of one of the following certifications is required and must be maintained: Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) , Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P), Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), Certified Ambulatory Surgery Center Coder (CASCC), or Certified Professional Coder (CPC).
    • Experience with Surgical Specialty Organizations (ex. AAOS, ACG, ACOG, etc.) references are a plus.
    • Experience with ACEP (American College of Emergency Physicians) and Emergency Department Facility and Professional Fee coding is a plus.
    • Excellent written & verbal communication skills.
    • Accuracy, detail oriented, thorough, and execution-oriented.
    • Living/working in the Eastern Time Zone is strongly preferred.

    Approximate base compensation: $50,000-$60,000. The final package may vary and will be determined by various factors, including the location where the role is expected to be performed, candidate experience, education, and ideal qualifications.
