Coding Compliance Specialist researches and develops the pre-certification insurance policy standards and criteria used by case management and utilization reviewers that will ensure that requested medical services are appropriate and medically necessary. Collaborates with medical professionals to resolve questions about policy development and standards. Being a Coding Compliance Specialist assigns correct ICD, CPT, or other coding assignments for medical procedures that support policy standards in claims systems. Provides expertise and solutions to users regarding the appropriate coding for claims. Additionally, Coding Compliance Specialist has broad knowledge of medical coding systems. May require an associate degree in healthcare administration, a related field, or equivalent. Requires AAPC Certified Professional Coder (CPC). May alternatively require Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification. Typically reports to a manager. The Coding Compliance Specialist occasionally directed in several aspects of the work.     Coding QI Compliance Auditor - Inpatient - REMOTE

    INPATIENT CODER

    100% Remote Position

    While you DO NOT need to live in WA state for this role, Swedish cannot currently support remote applicants living in CO, NY, PA, MA, OH or HI.

    SCHEDULE: (1.0 FTE; 40 hours per week). EXEMPT, Day shift, Monday-Friday. Hours are flexible but Caregivers can start work as early as 4am PST if desired.

    Responsible for monitory and overseeing the coding integrity program, for inpatient assignments. Assesses, develops resources/materials, and conducts training to assure accurate coding of HIM coded medical records. Serves as a coding expert, working with the Coding Supervisor/Manager and the Clinical Documentation Improvement Program (CDIP) Data Integrity Liaison to ensure compliance with Official Coding Guidelines for Coding and Reporting, coding conventions and regulatory oversight agencies. Develops competencies and quality assessment tools for education/compliance requirements. Responsible for developing and maintaining SMC coding guidelines for new and existing employees. Reviews and revises departmental policies and provides education to coding staff regarding changes. Identifies areas for documentation improvement and provides feedback to management and administration with SMC.

    Required Qualifications:

    • National Registered Health Information Administrator - American Health Information Management Association upon hire or
    • National Registered Health Information Technician - American Health Information Management Association upon hire or
    • National Certified Inpatient Coder upon hire or
    • National Certified Professional Coder upon hire or
    • National Certified Coding Specialist - American Health Information Management Association upon hire or
    • National Certified Coding Specialist - Physician - American Health Information Management Association upon hire
    • 5 years performing hospital-based inpatient and outpatient coding required, utilizing the most current versions of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and Current Procedure Terminology (CPT)
    • Experience training and/or teaching in acute care hospital setting
    • Experience implementing and improving upon a new program

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent from a two-year college and five years hospital setting experience, with credential. Will consider applicants with relevant experience and applicable education.
    • Working with management of the Quality Department, Clinical Documentation Improvement Programs, and other key stakeholders.
    • Experience using Epic and Quantum.
