    Bradleys, Incorporated is a very busy, fast growing, industrial electric motor repair shop about 15 miles northeast of Corpus Christi, Texas. We sell and repair medium and large motors and other rotating equipment used in a variety of local industries and municipalities.  We take pride in the high quality of our employees, which is reflected in the high quality of our workmanship.     Bradleys is looking for a bright, hardworking individual with a high mechanical aptitude and great attention to detail to train to become an electric motor coil winder/rewinder.

    This is a fabulous opportunity to learn a valuable new trade in an exciting industry while also getting paid a competitive salary. In this position you will learn how to:

    • Measure AC stators, DC field frames and armatures and various AC and DC coils
    • Record a motor's internal connections, turns, wire count, wires in hand, wire size, wire span, etc.
    • Clean winding cores and prepare them for insulation
    • Design insulation systems for winding cores and winding systems
    • Manufacture coils from copper to be reinserted into winding cores
    • Install various coils into stator cores
    • Weld copper connections
    • Operate various test equipment to analyze new and old windings
    • Much more!

    Job Duties

    Rewind and connect all types of windings; AC stator and wound rotors, all DC fields and armatures, transformers, and special coils.  Upload into Motorbase and provide purchasing data to Project Coordinator.

    Gather data for AC and DC stator and rotating windings and cores.  Record data on coil order form, order stator and armature form coils.

    Gather data and disassemble core stacks of transformers.

    Follow winding circuits to trouble shoot AC and DC windings.

    Perform electrical tests including HiPot on both AC and DC windings.

    Set-up cores in Burnout oven.  Check Temperature recorder history during job, and manage alarms.  

    Design and make all winding forms and fixtures.

    Strip winding.  File burrs from core slots using hand file, portable power file and scraper.  Perform core test to identify hot spots using Phenix Core Test equipment.  Inspect cores for defects and repair cores: align lamination using hammer and drift.   Record locations of pinholes and other imperfections.  

    Guide winding machine through various stages: Use power hoist; positions spindle in winding machine, regulate speed of winder to maintain even winding, adjust tension rolls on machine and set yardage counter using hand tools.

    Expert using testing equipment: how to test windings for motors-housing clearance, grounds and shot circuits by using clearance gauge, growler, spring-steel blade, insulation tester, and resistance bridge. 

    Wind new coils on armatures, stators, or rotors of used motors and generators. Rewind defective coils. 

    Track Department Labor hours versus Quoted Hours, per job.

    Perform all tasks as directed by Production Manager.

     Adjust tension rolls on machine and set yardage counter, using hand tools

    Inspect cores for defects and align lamination using hammer and drift

    File burrs from core slots, using hand file, portable power file, and scraper

    Line slots with sheet insulation and insert coils into slots

    Twist leads together to connect coils

    Tap coil and end winding to shape, using mallet and fiber block

    Perform all tasks as directed by Manager

    No supervisor role

    Skills/Qualifications

    Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training and operational safety procedures demonstrated by supervisor

    Must have the physical ability to safely lift fifty pounds

    Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and walk on a daily basis

    Adhere to safety regulations

    Willingness to learn latest processes and procedures

    Must be available to work overtimes and weekends as needed

    Continuing education; personal development

    Must follow all ISO quality processes, programs, and procedures

    Participate in regular training as required by the Training Program

     

    Skills/Qualifications

    Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to read, speak, write and comprehend English; fluent in Spanish a plus. 

    Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training and operational safety procedures demonstrated by supervisor.

    Must have the physical ability to safely lift fifty pounds. Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and walk on a daily basis. 

    Learn, train, implement and adhere to Bradleys’ policies and safety regulations. 

    Must be available to work overtime and weekends as needed.  The winding team will work 12 hour split shifts for some overtime jobs.

    Adhere to safety regulations. Must follow all ISO quality processes, programs, and procedures.

    Actively attend training, seminars and internal classes through the WorkForce Development Program.

     

    Education & Work Experience

    Associates Degree in Applied Science or other physical science based discipline is preferred.  High school diploma or equivalent with 2 to 3 years relevant working experience. 

    Knowledge of motor industry is a plus

    Must be able to read, speak, write and comprehend English
