U
ARTILLERY REPAIRER (Title 32)
  • US Army National Guard Units
  • Chaffee, AR FULL_TIME
  • Duties

    (1) Performs a wide variety of repair, rebuild, modification, inspection, and testing of self-propelled artillery, towed artillery, turret mounted weapon systems, and associated mechanisms such as loading, firing and recoil mechanisms, turret hydraulic systems, drive controllers , oil gears, oil pumps, elevating and traversing mechanisms, hydraulic systems and simple electrical systems. Operates various component parts to determine serviceability and to localize malfunctions to determine extent of corrective adjustments and repair procedures required. Removes and disassembles weapon assemblies for repair, replacement, or overhaul. Replaces unserviceable or non-repairable parts. Observes action of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical components for evidence of abnormal operations. Performs gas pressure tests and prefiring checks and adjustments. Measures cannon bores for wear and erosion by employing comparison gauge, borescope, and pullover gauge. Reassembles and installs assemblies on weapons and turret mechanisms. Performs final tests and adjustments to ensure that equipment is operating within the prescribed limits and tolerances.

    (2) Works on complete artillery pieces or a wide variety of major components, complex assemblies, and systems. Works on major assemblies such as gun tubes, breeches, carriages, mounts, turrets, elevating, traversing, loading, and control systems. Incumbent decides what parts and mechanisms can be reworked, refitted, or replaced. Performs adjustments and alignments as required. Assembles, adjusts, installs, aligns, and meshes recoil systems, hydraulic rammers, traversing mechanisms, and similar major components.

    (3) Traces circuits by referring to schematic diagrams and visually inspects circuits for faulty insulation, poor electrical contacts, and broken or worn electrical components. Uses test equipment and analyzes continuity of circuits. Repairs or replaces circuits. Employs applicable test, measuring and diagnostic equipment in conjunction with technical publications and prior knowledge to diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions.

    (4) May serve as a commodity inspector during Command Maintenance Management evaluations (COMET) or as a member of a Maintenance Assistance Instruction Team (MAIT).

    (5) Performs other duties as assigned.

    Compatible military grade and assignment required prior to the effective date of placement. This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership in the military grade listed below. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

    Military Grades: Enlisted/Warrant Officer

    Minimum Grade - PVT (E-1)
    Maximum Grade - CW3/(W-3)

    Compatible Military Assignments: Selectee must be a member of the Arkansas Army National Guard and hold MOS 91B, 91P, 91C, 91H

    IMPORTANT NOTES (AS APPLICABLE): Upon selection for this position, individual must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation. A favorable determination based upon investigative results is mandatory for this position. Failure to meet these requirements will result in termination of employment. A pre-placement physical is required if not already current. Upon selection, must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment (if applicable, training will be coordinated by the supervisor). Individual must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion, as determined by the Human Resources Office (HRO). Technicians will not be militarily senior to their full-time supervisor or wage leader (Grade Inversion). Enlisted members currently at a higher grade than allowed by the position (see Military Grade Requirement above) may apply; however, they must administratively reduce prior to appointment and provide confirmation of the reduction to HRO.

    Qualifications

    GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
    Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic system operations. Experience demonstrating the ability to fit and adjust parts and assemblies.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
    Experience or training in dismantling, cleaning, and reassembling various artillery subassemblies. Experience which has demonstrated the ability to diagnose malfunctions by recognizing worn or damaged parts by measurement, strength of springs or dimension of parts. Experience using hand tools, a limited number of measuring instruments, and a variety of test equipment. Experience which demonstrated the ability to interpret and apply a variety of technical manuals and similar published materials.

The position assembles, adjusts, installs, and aligns systems, mechanisms, and major components which have numerous and complicated parts and assemblies and subassemblies.
    • A working knowledge of electricity, pneumatics, and hydraulics is required in order to install, locate defects, and repair auxiliary systems.
    • The ability to read specifications, blueprints, and wiring diagrams and make proper adjustments to assemblies is required.
    • The positions works under general supervision where general assignments are given and the type of equipment and work to be done is specified.
    • This position determines the type and extent of repairs needed for a wide variety of complex equipment, and determines whether parts must be replaced or reworked.
    • The incumbent is relied upon to make difficult and frequent decisions regarding the work.
    • Work is performed in accordance with technical manuals and published materials, locating and interpreting pertinent data and instructions.
