    The Vice President of Academic Affairs is the chief academic officer representing academic affairs and reports directly to the President. The VPAA will advise the President and other College officers concerning recruitment, retention, and promotion of all faculty; allocate teaching and service space and collaborate with the deans on development, accreditation, teaching, service, and student success. They are charged with academic leadership of the College and promotes excellence in teaching and service across all academic programs. The Vice President for Academic Affairs directs and coordinates all academic activities. For all degree and certificate programs, the Vice President for Academic Affairs is responsible for ensuring compliance with academic accreditation requirements; advancing scholarly activity; and growing and supporting academic programs. The Vice President for Academic Affairs works closely with other vice presidents, directors, and administrators to support the College mission, vision, and overarching strategic plan to ensure institutional effectiveness.

    Examples of Work Performed
    The Vice President will:
    1. Advocate for academic affairs with internal and external stakeholders.
    2. Develop an efficient process for developing and implementing workforce ready, academically-sound programs, which includes building a positive collaborative relationship with the Nebraska State College System Office.
    3. Oversee and engage faculty in developing, evaluating, assessing, and revising curricula that supports student achievement.
    4. Ensure compliance with the Higher Learning Commission and collaborate with the Deans regarding the accreditation of program specific areas.
    5. Recruit and recommend to the president, with the advice of deans and college standing committees, appropriate faculty decisions such as appointments, salary, retention, promotion, tenure, grievances, and disciplinary actions.
    6.Participate in the negotiation of contracts for faculty and academic support personnel.
    7.Work with academic deans to create and implement a faculty development agenda to meet the needs of faculty and program objectives.
    8. Monitor existing, emerging, and innovative technologies to enhance teaching and learning as well as make appropriate recommendations for implementation.
    9.Support and guide a robust continuing education program which includes online courses, hybrid, face-to-face, and off-site delivery.
    10. Ensure compliance with College and Board policies and procedures.
    11. Embrace the college-wide commitment to shared governance by working collaboratively with Faculty, Support Staff, Professional Staff, and Student Senate.
    12. Create and foster environments which promote professional success and well-being of academic support staff, academic deans, department chairs, and directors who comprise the Office of Academic Affairs.
    13. Promote, maintain, and develop partnerships with off-campus constituencies which enhance College and regional effectiveness which includes developing learning agreements with business and industry and K-12 partners, pathway and articulation agreements with two-year, four-year, and academic health colleges and universities. Advance Scholarly Teaching, Activity, and Service
    14. Enhance, promote, and support quality scholarly teaching, activity, and service.
    15. Work with academic deans to clarify and promote the role that faculty teaching, activity, and service plays throughout the college to support the achievement of institutional mission, vision, and strategic plan.
    16. Encourage and facilitate pursuit of external funding, grants, and contracts, and other resources which sustain scholarship and regional economic development. Support Student Success and Engagement
    17. Create and monitor a diverse, open, and inclusive campus environment.
    18. Create and maintain a strong international education program.
    19. Support NCAA athletics and student life co-curricular events and activities.
    20. Collaborate with the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Dean of Student Affairs to develop, implement, and monitor a student success model which is strategic, and data driven.
    21. Provide academic input to strategic enrollment management efforts. Provide Institutional Leadership, Planning, and Budgeting
    22. Support and participate in college governance and committee structure.
    23. Represent Chadron State College’s academic programs to external organizations, groups, and individuals to promote and develop support for the College’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. 24. Collaborate with the President, deans, and Chief Executive Officer of the Chadron State College Foundation in securing donor support.
    25. Formulate and articulate sound policies and demonstrated ability to identify, resolve, and consult on a wide range of administrative personnel issues with a clear sense of institutional needs and priorities.
    26. Demonstrate strong organizational skills.
    27. Ensure effective and transparent communication with constituents across the institution, Nebraska State College System, and sister institutions-Peru State College and Wayne State College. 28. Foster and build collaborative relationships with the campus community and stakeholders.
    29. Work with other executive officers on implementing the campus master plan, campus-wide facilities planning efforts, and physical plant functions.
    30. Oversee development and implementation of overarching strategic plan with regards to academic program planning and execution.
    31. Supervise the preparation and submission of annual budgets from direct reports to ensure appropriate resource allocation to advance strategic priorities. Plan for long-term capital and operational resource needs, manage and monitor budgets on an ongoing basis.

    Required Qualifications
    Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree from an accredited institution.
    At least ten years of directly related professional experience with three or more years of experience in an academic administrative position (e.g., Assistant or Associate VPAA, Dean).
    Experience with organizing and leading regional accreditation efforts.
    Prior faculty experience in higher education.
    Experience with higher education curriculum development, planning, and program assessment.
    Knowledge and experience with alternative learning modalities, such as ITV, online, hybrid, off-site delivery.
