    Job Summary/Basic Function
    The Honors College is seeking Honors Peer Mentors to mentor groups of approximately 20 first-year Honors students during the summer and fall semester. As a mentor, you will develop your communication and leadership skills as you provide guidance and support, answer questions, and serve as a friendly face to new Sycamores while they transition into the ISU community.

    Applicants must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA and must have at least sophomore standing.

    Preferred Relevant Education and Experience
    Applicant must be an Indiana State University student enrolled in at least six credit hours. Applicant must be of sophomore, junior, or senior standing and have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA. Must have strong written and oral communication skills, be dependable and trustworthy, and be team-oriented. Previous experience with mentoring programs is preferred.

    Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    Successful Honors Peer Mentors will demonstrate the following general qualities:
    • Current Honors student with at least a 3.25 GPA.
    • A member of the Honors College for at least one academic year and progressing through the Honors curriculum requirements.
    • Must intend to hold the Honors Peer Mentor position from May 2024 – December 2024. Demonstrable leadership or mentoring skills and experience in developing and coordinating academic and social activities.
    • Willingness to learn and apply mentoring strategies during face-to-face and virtual (email & Discord) conversation.
    • General understanding of the Honors curriculum requirements.
    • Knowledge of campus support services and resources to refer students as needed.
    • Recognition of role as a mandated reporter and ability to report any items of concern.
    • Ability to work independently and with a team of diverse persons.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to speak publicly and ability to lead/facilitate groups.
    • Diligence with checking email daily and maintaining awareness about Honors events.
    • Enthusiastic about Honors and Indiana State University.
    • Responsible, conscientious, motivated, and approachable.

    NCAA Guidelines

    All employees and staff of ISU are bound by all NCAA, Missouri Valley Conference and institutional rules and regulations pertaining to intercollegiate athletics and must conduct themselves in accordance therewith. For more complete information on the duties and obligations of ISU employees and staff in this regard, employees and staff should contact the Compliance Office in the ISU Athletic Department.

    No ISU employee (whether paid or a volunteer) shall knowingly influence others to furnish the NCAA or an ISU investigator/compliance officer false or misleading information concerning an individual’s involvement in or knowledge of matters relevant to a possible violation of an NCAA regulation. Failure to abide by this term of employment shall constitute unethical conduct as defined by the NCAA and may result in immediate suspension and/or termination of the employment relationship with ISU.


    Job Duties

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities
    • Participate in Honors Peer Mentor training.
    • Communicate with all mentees before Residence Hall move-in.
    • Promote and attend the annual Honors Picnic at Wolf Field.
    • Regularly communicate biweekly with mentees throughout the semester (using email or Discord).
    • Schedule face-to-face meetings with mentees.
    • Complete Honors Peer Mentor written reflections (2).
    • Attend and promote Honors events. Help represent the Honors College at Honors College Preview Day resource fairs.
