    Summary: Reporting to the College President and serving on the President's Council, the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Student Learning (VPAASL) serves as the College's primary academic officer, providing vision and leadership in directing and overseeing the work of all faculty and ancillary academic activities (such as the library, high school partnerships, and student learning support services.) The VPAASL aligns and coordinates the development and implementation of all academic programs consistent with our mission and strategic priorities. The VPAASL actively works in collaboration with Division Chairs, and cross-functional campus committees aimed for faculty development and student success.

    Salary & Benefits: Salary of $113,000 - $142,000 based on experience. Benefits include Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance, eye care, dental, life and disability insurance; vacation and sick leave; and a choice of IPERS or TIAA retirement plans.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Required: Master's Degree with a willingness to pursue a terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of study; previous college level teaching experience. The successful candidate will have a strong record of professional accomplishments, two years or more of demonstrated academic leadership experience, and must support the mission of a comprehensive community college, promoting diversity and inclusion.
    Preferred: Terminal degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate field of study. Experience with the Higher Learning Commission or other regional accrediting body.

    • An understanding of the technologies necessary to communicate regularly and effectively with faculty, staff, President's Council peer members, and members of the public.
    • The ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing to serve the internal needs of the College and to represent the College to external audiences.
    • Experience in and a passion for teaching and methods of teaching and learning.
    • A track record of successfully promoting and implementing the value of and effective practices of a college-wide shared governance model of leadership and decision-making.
    • Will thrive in and value dialogue and discussion within committee structures and meetings in making decisions.

    RESPONSIBILITIES:

    STRATEGIC PLANNING & POLICY DEVELOPMENT:
    Shapes, communicates, and implements an academic vision that integrates with and advances our mission and strategic direction, while meeting fiscal responsibilities and ensuring the effective stewardship of resources.
    Guides, participates in, and coordinates the academic strategic planning process. This includes planning for new academic programs, as well as overseeing the identification and planning for academic conferences, institutes, institutional alliances, and collaborations that provide for the future advancement of our mission and graduates; with specific steps that provide job opportunities and service opportunities to our students.
    Role includes developing plans and resources for current and proposed business and educational projects, as well as designing and effectively implementing sound educational policies and processes that provide students, faculty, and staff with the best possible learning and work environment.
    LEADING & MANAGING FACULTY AND PERSONNEL:
    With the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, develops and executes plans which result in faculty who are ever more academically advanced, and who are an exemplary fit for our mission. Develops effective relationships with and optimizes the performance and impact of the Division Chairs through active mentoring, coaching, feedback, and development.
    Guides and ensures the Division Chairs have appropriate focus and processes in place for mentoring, coaching, providing feedback to and developing the faculty in their respective areas. Participates as requested in faculty development efforts.
    Provides leadership in developing cultural competency throughout the institution.
    Facilitates, develops, and recommends a succession planning process, successor candidates and successor development for key academic leadership positions. Assists in the selection of new faculty through collaboration with Division Chairs, faculty, staff, and Human Resources.
    EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMMING & ACCREDITATION:
    Ensures that all program and curriculum development and offerings are consistent with the College's mission and strategic priorities; and that all programs support and enhance student enrollment and completion rates.
    Leads the integration of technology throughout the curriculum.
    Oversees the development of non-credit to credit pathways and alignment of non-educational experiences to credit.
    Maintains or enhances our academic standing by overseeing and ensuring the continuous review, evaluation, and enhancement of current programs and curricula; planning and establishing of new courses, academic programs, and curriculum development.
    Leads all efforts related to College-wide accreditation, specific program and professional accreditation.
    THE STUDENT EXPERIENCE & OUTCOMES:
    Sets, communicates, and oversees achievement of educational program quality and performance standards to meet current and future student needs.
    Defines, tracks, and evaluates data regarding quality instruction, institutional effectiveness, and student learning outcomes; driving continual improvement in all areas.
    FISCAL PLANNING & MANAGEMENT:
    Directs, oversees, and coordinates the College's planning and budgeting process across all academic units. Helps unit leaders rationalize, allocate, and prioritize resources at the unit and institutional levels.
    Makes recommendations to the President as to the fiscal priorities of academic affairs. Keeps the Vice President of Administrative Services and the President apprised of fiscal priorities within academic affairs.
    Oversees the development, maintenance, and use of the educational facilities, including all academic buildings, laboratories, and the library. Works with others to plan for the appropriate improvements of all such facilities.
    Performs in a manner that strengthens the coordination and cooperation of all organizational components of the College, including opportunities for student recruitment.
