Transylvania University, a private liberal arts college, seeks an experienced, collaborative, and strategic leader to serve as its next Associate Vice President for Advancement. Located in the heart of downtown Lexington, Kentucky, Transylvania University features a personalized approach to undergraduate education through 46 liberal arts majors. Founded in 1780, it is the 16th oldest institution of higher learning in the country with approximately 1,000 students.
The Associate Vice President (AVP) for Advancement assists the Vice President of Advancement in the successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of University prospects as well as management of office personnel and projects, with an emphasis on major gift goals and execution. This position also assists in the strategy and execution of campaign efforts.
A Bachelor’s Degree and minimum of nine years’ progressive development experience required including prior management experience and major/leadership gifts work, preferably in higher education. Graduate degree preferred.
Under limited supervision and reporting to the Vice President for Advancement, the Associate Vice President for Advancement (AVP) is responsible for interacting with major gift prospects and donors, Board members, volunteers and faculty/staff colleagues. Position requires frequent travel and work on nights and weekends.
Essential Duties:
· Hire, train, inspire, oversee and direct daily operation of major gifts and leadership annual giving personnel, as well as related functions and programs in consultation with the Vice President. This includes developing and achieving appropriate metrics, goals and performance review for activities and solicitations.
· Provide leadership in identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors, including individuals, foundations and corporations.
· Develop and maintain personal portfolio and territory of approximately 70 key major gift donors/prospects along with development suspects. Portfolio production will include substantial local and national travel.
· Create and execute short- and long-term written fundraising plans for major gift prospects in conversation with staff and volunteers.
· Assist VP in leading campaign solicitations, strategy and assessment as well as select campaign and project-based volunteer committees.
· Serve as point person/contact for campus fundraising projects/activities/needs, including serving as office liaison with Athletics.
· Serve as Advancement point person for Board of Regents Advancement Committee.
· Work with Director of Advancement Services and Vice President to calculate and assign gift officer prospects within software system. Develop strategy and lead continuous portfolio system updates and progress by entire staff. Evaluate gift officers on major gift goals and effectiveness and lead the highest possible yield in major giving and campaign production. Assist Director of Advancement Services in CRM and software decisions for alumni and development areas.
Secondary Duties:
· Represent the college at alumni/donor activities, public functions and events, including social and professional gatherings.
· Provide general support to the President and the Vice President for Advancement as needed to help fulfill the University's mission.
· Perform other duties as assigned or required.
