Job Overview

This position reports to the Commercial Lending and Business Services Manager. The Commercial Underwriter and Portfolio Manager is responsible for Business/Commercial Loan Underwriting of all real estate secured loans and non-secured real estate loans in excess of $250,000.  Underwriting will include but not limited to; review with preparation of an underwriting summary of loans submitted by business loan personnel, assisting the commercial lenders with the preparation of loan presentations, analysis of new and existing loans financial packages - guarantors’ s financial data, tax returns (personal and corporate), income statements, balance sheets, financial statements, trends and business plans.  Position requires extensive experience with documentation such as tax returns and financial statements, along with experience with spreading or business analytic systems. 

This position will oversee the maintenance of the business loan portfolio to include, but not limited to; tickler reports, monthly and quarterly reporting requirements.  This position requires a high level of analytical and organizational skills, ability to communicate complex financial subject matter, a thorough understanding of business lending programs, policies, and procedures.  The ability to multitask is vital to the successful execution of this position.

Hours: Monday through Friday, occasional Saturdays

12020 Rojas. El Paso, TX 79936 (Onsite)

Pay Range

Grade: 12S

Pay commensurate with experience

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

• Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or related area.
• Experience Required: Minimum of five (5) years of related experience and three (3) years of commercial lending experience.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial information and identify risk.
• Good understanding of financial industry concepts, related laws, and regulations.
• Ability to work on multiple transactions simultaneously and prioritize assignments to meet deadlines.
• Previous credit union experience is a plus.
• Excellent communication skills and avid listener, strong business writing.
• Entrepreneurial mindset and quick to adapt to fast fast-paced environment.
• High integrity, detail-oriented ability to evaluate and mitigate risk.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and web-based applications (Excel Pivot Table knowledge a plus).

Role Description and Essential Duties

Risk Mitigation

• Responsible for the review and analysis of financial statements, preparation of loan presentations, assisting the commercial lenders with loan committee presentations for review and approval.
• Perform financial statement spreading and analysis on new and existing loan relationships.
• Evaluate the creditworthiness of borrowers and guarantors by evaluating cash flow and debt serviceability.
• Conduct market analysis for each loan presentation based on the industry of the proposed borrower.
• Calculating financial ratios based on financial statements and data provided.
• Providing recommendations and suggestions to commercial lenders of loan structures, payment plans, and interest rates.
• Assist commercial lenders with the writing of loan presentations that are clear and concise using prudent underwriting standards.
• Ensure compliance with credit union policies and procedures and applicable regulations.

Business Partnership

• Communicate with borrowers, guarantors, company controllers, and accountants to gather additional information and interpret financial statements.

Member Service

• Provide guidance and answer questions related to credit unions and all other related services. Supports cross-selling efforts and solves problems. Assistance is provided as needed.

Products and Services

• Knowledgeable expert who is educated on all services provided. Attends required training and demonstrates a willingness to keep learning.

Communication

• A natural communicator who picks up on member’s concerns- and expresses things in a way they can relate to and who helps them understand complex or intimidating topics, so they feel more knowledgeable. Management is appropriately informed.
