Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     POSITION SUMMARY:

    The Commodity Buyer will cultivate relationships, negotiate prices, and purchase goods and services from suppliers according to departmental and organizational policies and procedures.

    WHAT YOU'LL DO

    • Research, understand and implement purchasing, sales and pricing decisions based on commodity market conditions on daily basis.
    • Responsible for perishable inventory positions relative to age and market conditions.
    • Building and maintaining vendor relationships to maximize business.
    • Negotiates the purchase of commodity proteins.
    • Communicate with warehouse as needed.
    • Manage inventory within budget limits, while maintaining in stock position.
    • Responsible for pricing and margin decisions for products assigned.
    • Work closely with marketing team to execute specific marketing campaigns.
    • Works independently with some direction from the Purchasing Manager and Director.
    • Follows up in a timely fashion with suppliers on late deliveries, obtain shipping confirmations/proof of delivery as required.
    • Prints daily reports, open order report and overdue report, executes accurate purchase orders as system requirements indicate.
    • Works with Accounts Payable to resolve accounting discrepancies as needed.
    • Monitors price changes from suppliers and reviews with the Senior buyer and Purchasing manager.
    • Operates within department policies and procedures.
    • Reviews product allocation.
    • Coordinate with warehouse and inventory control
    • Updates customer pricing.
    • Works with Customer Service Representatives communicating supplier information, order status, and any pertinent changes.
    • Coordinates efforts between CSR’s, Sales Reps., and suppliers on customer returns as needed.
    • Follows up on orders to ensure that product is shipped and delivered on promised dates.
    • Maintains records and follow up files of purchases, shipments, and related matters.
    • Performs other duties as requested by management.

    Requirements:

    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with proven negotiation skills.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of employees and managers.
    • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Thorough understanding of purchasing procedures and policies.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and computer-based applications.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related field highly preferred.
    • 4-5 years' as at Buyer
    • Prior experience working in the food industry preferred
