Communications Director directs an organization's internal and external communications strategies and programs. Directs and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products. Being a Communications Director may conduct market or public opinion research to assess program outcomes. Suggests promotional campaign ideas in various types of media, as well as counsels top management on effective communication strategies. Additionally, Communications Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Communications Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Communications Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Oversees internal and external communication focused on mission clarity, focus, growth, and culture. Additionally, provides leadership to expanding awareness and growth of Goodwill West Texas. Responsible for marketing strategy and campaigns including: print, billboards, radio, social media through content, graphic, and video design. Coordinate public relations, advertising, awareness and community engagement.

    EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

    · Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business, non-profit management or related field required

    · Experience in marketing, PR and advertising required

    · Experience with content development for social media, internal marketing, video creation, or graphic design required

    · Proven leadership abilities with exemplary interpersonal, verbal, listening and written communication skills


    QUALIFICATIONS / SPECIAL SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE:

    · Valid Texas drivers license

    · Strong organization and time management skills

    · Self-motivated, creative, innovative and able to work with minimal supervision

    · Ability to effectively present information to management, public groups, board of directors, etc.

    · Ability to deal personably and positively with individuals, staff, business organizations and the public

    · Excellent presentation and media skills (television, radio, publications)

    · Excellent written and verbal communication skills

    · Ability to solve practical problems; must exercise judgment and discretion in the performance of duties

    · Ability to operate a variety of computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.

    · Ability to produce quality documents; establish priorities and meet deadlines

    · Ability to coordinate multiple projects concurrently

    · Ability to work independently and under supervisor’s direction

    · Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively with co-workers and others

    · Ability to travel on regular basis as needed


    RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

    · Develop strategies and coordinate events and programs to provide sustainability and growth for Goodwill-West Texas including advertising, marketing, media and public relations. (E)

    · Responsible for website management; social network sites; basic graphic design; newsletters, brochures, articles & press releases. (E)

    · Expand and enhance relationships through various business development opportunities such as community events, trade shows, Business Expo, prospecting, targeted follow-up, etc.

    · Manage multiple projects with strong skills in planning and problem-solving. (E)

    · Maintain professional branding/appearance at all facilities and collateral materials. (E)

    · Direct and work effectively with vendors, donors, volunteers, staff and committees in a wide range of activities. (E)

    · Deliver organized, structured and persuasive presentations using effective written and verbal communication. (E)

    · Stay apprised of industry and legal updates. (E)

    · Provide accurate fiscal projections and accountability. (E)

    · Resolve conflict, promote cooperation, commitment, momentum and pride within team and volunteers. (E)

    · Maintain a pleasant, positive and helpful attitude among co-workers and others.

    · Perform other duties as assigned.
