    The Office of Marketing & Communications in The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for an Associate Director of Marketing Communications position. This position serves as the college lead for advancement-related and corporate relations communications. This position strategizes on comprehensive communication plans, creates content and manages flow of cultivation, solicitation and stewardship communication to donors, alumni, friends, and industry partners; produces content and manages key messages across platforms, multimedia channels and events through partnership with advancement, corporate relations, and communication professionals across the college.


    Duties and Responsibilities:

    Content Development, Implementation and Execution:

    • Develop on-brand multimedia content that drives measurable engagement with key audiences and stakeholders, supports college and university strategic goals and is integrated across all relevant channels.
    • Research, write and edit content, collaborating with college-wide faculty, staff, students, alumni, and industry partners to develop compelling and persuasive messaging and materials in line with the college brand.
    • Lead the development, implementation, and execution of college-wide content campaigns for key audiences.
    • Write event invitations, scripts, and programs.
    • Work within the OMC project management system and workflow to maintain ongoing status of proposals and projects.

    Planning and Strategy:

    • Manage communications annual planning and priority setting for advancement-related and corporate relations communication in concert with college marketing and communications, advancement, and corporate relations leadership.
    • Create, organize, and deliver regular marketing communication plans for key audiences throughout the respective funnel.
    • Lead and manage the planning and production of multimedia communications for key audiences in close coordination with the Office of Marketing & Communications (OMC) and college stakeholders.
    • Develop new and interesting ways to use marketing communications platforms in strategic alignment with the broader college and university marketing communications strategy.
    • Develop analytics data, implement decisions based on that data, and regularly present to leadership.
    • Guide college-wide communication professionals sharing best practices, aligning content and channel strategies, as well as writing, updating and maintaining consistent and compelling content for key audiences.
    • Create and implement strategic communication plans informed by emerging topics, trends, and strategies relevant to Grainger Engineering audiences.
    • Manage the integration and alignment of Grainger Engineering and University of Illinois brand and marketing strategies and guidelines with all communications.

    Organizational Support:

    • Cultivate and foster effective communication with various groups, including alumni, donors, industry partners, government agencies, faculty, staff, students, and external vendors.
    • Represent Grainger Engineering communications on college and campus committees as requested.
    • Assume additional duties related to communications to further the Grainger Engineering mission and strategic priorities including assisting with events as needed.
    • Move quickly and flexibly, work on projects simultaneously, and resolve complex situations.
    • Guide projects from start to finish using project management tools.
    • Other duties as assigned.


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
      • Five (5) years of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related profession.
      • Demonstrated experience with digital storytelling, professional writing, and conducting interviews.
      • Experience with data analysis and marketing research.
      • Experience with digital design, print and electronic materials.
      • Experience in advancement or similar field.

      Preferred Qualifications:

      • Experience communicating scientific research to both technical and nontechnical audiences. Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

      Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

      • Knowledge of, or interest in, science and engineering.
        • Excellent writing and editing skills and a proven track-record of successfully funded proposals.
        • Ability to comprehend complex ideas and translate them into clear, concise language.
        • Ability to work collaboratively yet be self-motivated, responsible, and deadline oriented.
        • Working knowledge of applications and software such as Adobe CS (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere, Dreamweaver).
        • Knowledge in creating/reviewing strategies.


        APPOINTMENT INFORMATION

        This is a full-time Civil Service Marketing Associate classification appointed on a 12-month service basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the closing date.


        The minimum salary is $75,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Hybrid work options may be available for this position, with the ability to be on-site as needed. Work authorization is not available for this position.
