Additionally, Communications Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.   • Basic Function:

    Under minimal supervision of the Corporate Director of Communications, serves as a primary departmental contact for assigned communications projects, actively engaging in communications planning, implementation and evaluation, and ensuring tasks are completed in a timely manner and that work products are of the highest quality.  Coordinates work with program staff and other members of the communications department as necessary.  Writes, edits, and produces or assists in the production of a variety of materials, including e-newsletters and bulletins, social media posts reports, presentations, proposals, advertisements, PSAs, press releases, publications, videos and podcasts.  Creates Web content and ensures accuracy and timeliness of content on any assigned Web sites.  Leads or assists with the research, design, and implementation of communications campaigns and social marketing projects.  May be called upon to attend and staff events or make presentations. As assigned, maintains departmental documentation.

    Role and Responsibilities:

    • Serves as a primary departmental contact for communications projects or contracts as assigned.  Actively engages in communications planning, implementation and evaluation, ensures tasks are completed in a timely manner and that work products are of the highest quality.  Demonstrates a high commitment to customer service. 
    • Writes and edits e-newsletters and publications, social media posts, brochures, newsletters, publications, proposals, reports, news releases and other materials. Ensures that products meet corporate, contractor and governmental specifications.  Follows internal paperwork procedures. As necessary, works with vendors to produce final product.
    • Produces, edits, and presents, webinars, multimedia materials, videos and podcasts concerning educational, informational, or promotional activities and services.
    • Participates in various phases of communications campaigns and projects--including research, implementation and evaluation. 
    • Posts materials on any assigned Web sites.  As needed, checks the sites for outdated material and makes corrections as necessary in a timely manner.  Also reviews and remediates 508 compliance issues.
    • Plans and participates in public meetings, trade shows, community events, and committees as needed.
    • Serves on internal workgroups and supports other Quality Insights departments and projects.
    • Produces and packages communication materials for meetings, presentations, trade shows, proposals, etc. Ensures that adequate supplies of materials are on hand.
    • Maintains departmental documentation related to purchasing, publications, and any other requirements.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Ability to simultaneously handle multiple projects with attention to timeliness, accuracy and quality.
    • Ability to provide excellent, high-quality customer service to internal and external customers. 
    • Ability to build and maintain relationships with coworkers and external entities.  
    • Extensive experience with computers, including creative software (such as Adobe projects) and the Microsoft Office Suite. 
    • Ability to manage a complex, varied workload and follow through on assignments in a timely manner.
    • Ability to organize and present informational, technical, and promotional materials in clear, concise, and appealing format.
    • Ability to write and edit papers, articles, advertisements, audio and video programs, and other materials for professional and consumer audiences.
    • Ability to communicate easily and clearly, both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, as needed.
    • Ability to prepare documents in html or other Web-specific format, or willingness to learn this skill.
    • Ability to assist in the design and implementation of social marketing projects.

    Minimum Education/Training Required:

    Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.

    Minimum Experience Required:

    Five (5) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in a communications dissemination field.  

    Substitution(s):

    Master’s degree may substitute for two (2) years of experience.
