Communications Director directs an organization's internal and external communications strategies and programs. Directs and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products.     Summary

    Washington Farm Bureau (WFB) is the state’s most effective farm organization serving farmer and rancher members through programs and advocacy that strengthen the future of agriculture. The Communications Director will join a dynamic team of Communications & Marketing professionals who amplify the voice of Washington agriculture and Farm Bureau. The Comms Director will work collaboratively with all WFB departments to develop and execute successful communication strategies that further the mission of the organization and interests of the members. Included in this focus is communicating WFB’s key legislative and program initiatives to farmers and ranchers, supporting members, legislators and non-members alike. In growing the success of the organization, the Comms Director will be a leader who ensures clear, cohesive, and effective delivery of messaging to maximize WFB membership value.

    Responsibilities

    • Work with department directors and staff to lead communications efforts, deliver key messaging and ensure member voices are raised to benefit all agriculture operations of any size or type by making recommendations, developing plans and executing initiatives with the can-do team spirit of the organization in mind at all times.
    • Lead messaging and outreach during Legislative Session and throughout the year for Governmental Affairs initiatives and priorities of the organization.
    • Develop communications plans in collaboration with the department director that include original written works, generating messaging, editing and supporting written materials for member printed and electronic publications, press releases, newsletters, postcards, & flyers.
    • Source and work with freelance writers when needed for additional articles in both internal and external publications to further advance Farm Bureau recognition and success.
    • Produce and/or oversee graphic/photo/video content delivery and projects in all media outlets.
    • Manage, lead and collaborate with staff on WFB social media planning and content.
    • Serve as the key liaison and communications professional between WFB and the media including writing and distributing effective and timely news releases.
    • Develop working relationships with media outlets to leverage outreach opportunities.
    • Support planning, lead content design and creative vision for an effective WFB website.
    • Draft, review and send MailChimp/Text messages to appropriate audiences in a timely manner.
    • Seek out and highlight members to generate positive stories and messaging through all media types by coordinating with elected leaders and staff to visit farm and ranch operations to secure and write stories. Travel as needed to meet with members.
    • Support Field Staff in developing and meeting communications goals for County Farm Bureaus.
    • Develop video and audio publications, podcasts, etc. as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Effective communication skills, including proven use of messaging, written communication and editing that can effectively prevent errors at all levels.
    • Expertise in the use of Microsoft Office products
    • Experience in various graphics development systems such as Canva, Adobe, etc.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in communications project management, photography, and videography.
    • Ability to prioritize projects, work independently and on a team, and multi-task efficiently.
    • Organized with a strong attention to detail and able to manage concurrent projects with demanding deadlines.
    • General knowledge and/or understanding of agriculture.
    • Ability to work in an office setting daily with travel to various agricultural locations across Washington.

    Job Location: Lacey corporate offices w/some travel for story development.
