  • TITLE: DIRECTOR - COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS STATUS: EXEMPT DEPARTMENT: COMMUNICATIONS & COMMUNITY RELATIONS  DATE: 01/23 REPORTS TO: VICE PRESIDENT - COMMUNICATIONS AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS  JOB CODE: 6514 PAY SCALE: $152,300.00 - $165,000.00 ANNUALLY   GENERAL DESCRIPTION:   The Director – Communications and Community Relations, directly oversees activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization's brand reputation across stakeholder groups including internal and external events and sponsorships, corporate giving, and public relations. This position manages a team while concurrently supporting the Vice President – Communications and Community Relations by, among other duties, representing Golden 1 in our communities and serving as a corporate spokesperson.   The position requires development of community and media relations strategies; evaluating and analyzing insights and learnings to define benchmarks and maximize ROI; and recommending improvements through regular, constructive dialogue with senior leadership and colleagues within and outside the department.   TASKS, DUTIES, FUNCTIONS:   Serve on the department leadership team, working with other department leaders and teams to help create and execute an integrated marketing, communications, and community relations strategy.   Assist and support the VP – Communications & Community Relations with development of annual and ongoing strategy and budgets, planning, coordination, and implementation of programs and initiatives.   Manage team leads focused on the Credit Union’s community engagement, charitable giving, community events, and public relations strategies.   Research and write Board and Committee reports, as well as attend meetings as necessary, ensuring timely delivery to all stakeholders; edit and develop content for the monthly letter.   Manage budget reconciliation for the Communications & Community Relations department.   Develop and maintain relationships with external vendors and community partners to advance Golden 1’s Community Outreach Vision to increase educational opportunity, strengthen financial well-being, and make our communities great.   Represent Golden 1 in the community at events and meetings and serve as a corporate spokesperson.   Work as the Team Lead on special projects as assigned.   Manage contracts and lead relationships with key contacts on large community events and initiatives.   Provide leadership and oversight ensuring up to date training and development for department staff.   Establish and monitor staff performance and development goals, set objectives, establish priorities, conduct annual performance appraisals, process e-time, and manage vacation and time-off schedules.   Foster a positive and engaging work environment for each team member by promoting skill development, coaching for improvement and growth, inspiring others through your words and actions, ensuring positive employee morale throughout Golden 1, and embracing our mission, vision, and core values.   Maintain a thorough understanding of state and federal laws and regulations related to credit union compliance including bank secrecy and anti-money laundering laws appropriate to the position. Other duties as assigned.   Develop and maintain an understanding of the pertinent regulatory requirements and risks inherent to job responsibilities, establish, and maintain control activities that mitigate those risks consistent with the Credit Union’s risk appetite, and ensure operational integrity and compliance with applicable regulations.     PHYSICAL SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EXERTION UTILIZED IN THE PERFORMANCE OF THESE TASKS:   1.  Exceptional oral and written communication skills. 2.  Must possess sufficient manual dexterity to skillfully operate an on-line computer terminal and other standard office equipment, such as financial calculators, personal computer, facsimile machine and telephone.   ORGANIZATIONAL CONTACTS & RELATIONSHIPS:   1.  INTERNAL:  All levels of staff.   2. EXTERNAL: Members, community partners, third-party vendors, other credit union representatives.   QUALIFICATIONS:   EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree in Communication, Journalism, English, or a related field. Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.   EXPERIENCE: Five or more years of communications, public relations, public affairs, or corporate social responsibility experience and three or more years of management and/or supervisory experience required. Experience as a corporate spokesperson preferred.   KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:   Exceptional verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must communicate effectively and persuasively with all levels of the Credit Union. Strong working knowledge of best practices and current techniques related to Communications/Community Relations. Knowledge of principles and practices of Communications/Community Relations planning and implementation. Knowledge of the project management process and ability to organize and direct a project to Completion. Excellent grammar, spelling, copyediting, and proofreading skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:   Must reside within the territory and market region they support. Prolonged sitting throughout the workday with occasional mobility required. Corrected vision within the normal range. Hearing within normal range. A device to enhance hearing will be provided if needed.
