Summary

The Senior Editor of The Daily Economy will be primarily responsible for publishing the content of the journal daily and contributing to other AIER publications as needed. This person should have a background as an editor and writer. Experience editing and publishing online content is especially desired for this position. This position will involve generating ideas for publication, ensuring that the Daily Economy content tiers up to our institutional priorities, editing, working with writers, leading a small editorial team, and the presentation of online work. We also desire for the candidate to have familiarity and alignment with free market economic thought and classical liberal ideas (and to be able to regularly produce content from this school of thinking). Finally, this person will regularly interact with AIER’s scholarly team and report to the Director of Publications in the performance of the Senior Editor’s duties.  

Duties and Responsibilities:

    Editing and Publishing Standards

• Responsible for the daily publications process for The Daily Economy.
• Produce original ideas for content creation and match those ideas with a stream of current and new writers.
• Constantly find ways to increase the reach and effectiveness of the journal.
• Contribute your own original pieces to the journal on a regular basis.
• Ensure that content is consistent with our Mission and institutional priorities.
• Continue to develop the artistic design elements of the journal.
• Work effectively with the managing editor of The Daily Economy.
• Work with other departments of AIER as needed.

    Website

• Supervise and direct outside vendors regarding The Daily Economy content and social media output.

    Other

• Work with the Research team, External Relations, and Programs as needed to promote The Daily Economy.

Qualifications

• 5-8 years of experience in communications, editing, and writing for publications.
• Strong writing and editing skills.
• Knowledge of and alignment with free market thought and the classical liberal tradition.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to travel domestically, lift and transport equipment (up to 30 pounds) within the campus environment; remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time; move around airports, planes, cars, the office and between offices; constantly operate a computer and computer printer; frequently adjust focus for close vision work. The employee must be able to communicate both in writing and orally to various audiences, in person, by telephone, and by video.

The position requires some travel for promoting AIER efforts and publications, recruiting, participating in seminars/conferences, and other related duties.
