Represents the institution within the community and is a resource for information about products and services that are available. Additionally, Community Development Representative adheres to all operational procedures and complies with Community Reinvestment Act and other regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Community Development Representative occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Marketing and Development Specialist

  • Position Summary:
    The Marketing & Development Specialist works closely with the Outreach & Development Director to create and implement various marketing and fundraising strategies to expand donor/prospect and community outreach, solicitation, and cultivation. This includes nurturing relationships through targeting communications, personal outreach, networking and other events. This position oversees and creates marketing for outreach and fundraising purposes which may include advertising, creation of materials, video content, social media, e-newsletters, etc. In addition, the Marketing & Development Specialist will work with the Director to coordinate and implement 3-4 small board hosted events and possibly a large fundraising event annually.

    Required Education and Experience:
    • Associate’s degree plus three years of experience in a related field, with one year being marketing or development experience, or any combination of education and experience equal to five years.
    Preferred Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree plus five years of experience marketing or development experience, or any combination of education and experience equal to nine years.
    License & Certifications:
    • Must have dependable, insured transportation and valid California Driver’s License (mileage to be reimbursed) and acceptable driving record.
    • A DMV printout and proof of insurance will be required.
    Essential Functions:
    • Work closely with the Director to cultivate and steward current donors and prospects. This includes, but is not limited to, inviting them to meetings or events, creating and sending emails and letters; and, keeping information current in the donor database.
    • Maintain and implement data maintenance including donor database, mailing lists for businesses, political leaders, media contacts, event sponsors and participants.
    • Create and implement development of promotional materials, e-blasts, and advertising for agency programs and events.
    • Manage website updates in coordination with other staff.
    • Interview, photograph and/or video program participants for outreach and donor engagement keeping track of these stores in a shared library.
    • Create social media content and post coordinating with the Communications Department (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, Nextdoor).
    • Coordinate with media for outreach, promotion and editorial content including press releases, radio spots, requests for articles and responses to current events when necessary and appropriate. This includes development of media coverage, including online, radio and print media, and public access television.
    • Work closely with the Director to create and implement all events.
    • Respond to emails, phone calls and all correspondence in a timely and professional manner.

    • Must have knowledge of principles, methods, and techniques of marketing and fundraising
    • Must be knowledgeable of general office practices and skills.
    Skills:
    • Must have clear, concise, organized writing skills, including grammar and punctuation expertise.
    • Must have strong computer skills, including Word, Google Docs, Excel, PowerPoint, and Raiser’s Edge.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal skills, emphasizing listening and communication.
    Abilities:
    • Must be able to work effectively, exercise judgment, and assume responsibility under limited supervision.
    • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
    • Must be able to relate well to all people of the community regardless of color, national origin, religion, sex, pregnancy, age, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, disability or socio-economic level.
    Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Knowledge and experience in marketing and fundraising including the principles, methods, and techniques of effective outreach and communication, donor prospecting and engagement; and event planning and implementation.
    • Must be able to develop strong working relationships with donors, elected officials, representatives of the media, and corporate/foundation leaders.
    • Must be able to develop reports, letters, forms, participant satisfaction surveys, and other documents as needed.
    Supervisory Responsibility:
    • This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.
    Work Environment:
    • Requires working indoors in a temperature-controlled environment with some exposure to copier and printer chemicals/fumes.
    Physical Demands:
    • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
    Physical:
    • Position requires long periods of sitting, and intermittent standing, walking, twisting, and bending.
    • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
    • Simple grasping and hand manipulation required, as well as reaching above and below shoulder level.
    Travel:
    • Requires ability to travel to conferences and meetings when indicated, with exceptions for COVID 19.
    Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age by date of hire.
    • Must comply with the CAPSLO COVID-19 Vaccination Policy, either being fully vaccinated or sign a COVID-19 vaccination declination form.
    • Based on the program, a current TB skin test/Chest X-Ray may be required.
    • Employment is contingent upon meeting all applicable job requirements and background requirements. A criminal history clearance is required prior to employment.
    • Upon hire, agency staff will check Megan's Law (or the current sexual predator website) to ensure each staff being hired is clear for employment. Agency staff will check the website annually to ensure all program staff are cleared to work.
