    I. POSITION OBJECTIVE

    The Director of Community Life Services is responsible for the planning, coordinating and directing a wide and varied scope of activities and programming which meet the social, educational and recreational needs of the Compass Pointe Independent Living Residents (IL).  The Director of Community Life Services ensures activities are provided to enhance the quality of life for residents.

    II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    • Plans, coordinates and directs a wide scope of social, educational, and recreational activities with the intent of including all residents in some area of activity (i.e. healthy life services).

     

    • Responsible for the coordination of transportation to events and programs when necessary, including bus transportation and other vehicle transportation.  Ensures the safety and well-being of all IL residents during events and trips.

     

    • Serves as the community liaison for all contract personnel for entertainment personnel for all IL Resident Functions and Activities. Reviews, monitors and approves contracts/agreements for all external/contracted personnel.

     

    • Plans, organizes, posts and/or distributes information and material regarding events, programs, activities, etc., including monthly and/or weekly activities calendar.

     

    • Develops, plans, coordinates and creates newsletters for IL residents. This may include transportation, activities, wellness and general information.
    • Maintains appropriate records pertaining to the department budget. Monitors and controls cost expenditures, providing justifications/explanations for variances as appropriate.

     

    • Serves as a liaison MVB Committees & other activity-driven committees.

     

    • Serves as a resource person for new residents. Participates in First Impressions Breakfast.

     

    • Overseas Fitness Management (NIFS); if applicable.

     

    • Supervises IL Community Life Staff, if applicable.

     

    III. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Encourages residents to take an active part in the Community and recreational programs.

     

    • Assists residents in determining the level and quantity of activity.

     

    • Prepares and maintains required reports, records, studies and surveys.

     

    • Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.

     

    • Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

     

    • Coordinates services with other departments and involves other departments in activities as applicable. 

     

    IV. KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • At least three years’ experience in geriatrics, recreation or social administration.

     

    • Computer skills necessary as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

    V. LICENSES/ CERTIFICATIONS

    • Degree in recreational therapy and/or Activity Director Certification preferred.

     

    VI. PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS

    • Must be able to work with others in setting up for events, including lifting, stooping, stretching, and using a stepstool. Must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.; must be able to complete small set-ups independently; must be able to assist residents physically in boarding the bus, sitting, standing, and walking.  Good visual and hearing acuity required; good verbal communication skills required. May be exposed to communicable diseases, and blood and body fluids that may contain HIV and/or HBV.  May be exposed to cleaning chemicals and offensive odors.

     

    • Ability to read and write in English.

     

    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
