Recommends community health initiatives, policy implications and best practices after reviewing health literature and statistics. Being a Community Health Director identifies community health program related grant funding and develops grant proposals. Manages specific community health programs from planning and design through implementation and evaluation. Additionally, Community Health Director requires a master's degree in a related area. Typically reports to a top management. The Community Health Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Community Health Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. The Vanderburgh County Health Department offers the Pre To 3 Program, a home-visiting program designed to support families during pregnancy and until the baby is 3 years old. A Community Health Worker visits the family each week and uses the Growing Great Kids™ (GGK) curriculum to teach important skills that build a healthy home. Community Health Workers (CHWs) are frontline public health workers who have a close understanding of the community they serve.
