    About the Position:

    Government and Community Relations initiates and maintains Cal State Fullerton's connection and relationship between local, state, and federal officials and the University. The office advocates for the university and acts as a central point for those interested in developing a relationship with the institution. We provide periodic updates to legislative delegations on campus programs and funding priorities, especially during difficult budget times. The office works cooperatively with the CSU's offices of advocacy and state and federal relations. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Director of Local and Community Relations (Administrator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude, an active, energetic mind, and a leadership style that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

    The Director of Local and Community Relations is responsible for cultivating and maintaining relationships with local elected and appointed officials. Responsible for the recruitment of key university support groups related to community relations and university priorities. Cultivates and develops partnerships with and among these and other entities. Contributes to the strategic planning and directs engagement objectives to develop and maintain productive relations with local government and communities that will support and enhance the University’s goals and enhance its reputation. Collaborate with the Associate Vice President and Senior Director of Government Relations and Advocacy to grow funding streams for impactful programs. Measure and report on the University’s local and regional impact, using data to drive continuous improvement. Meets regularly with a variety of students and campus personnel (faculty, deans/associate deans, administrators, and staff) to match campus expertise with external needs. Develops programs/partnerships to engage individuals/groups in support of campus programs/priorities. Serves as key contact/information gateway for the general community and, as necessary, provides updates on campus projects and priorities affecting campus/external relations. Other duties as assigned.


    Essential Qualifications


    Bachelor's degree in a related field and a minimum of five years of direct experience within California (non-profit organization, legislative, state, or federal office or agency). The ideal candidate will be a high energy individual able to work with minimal supervision, exhibiting high levels of attention to detail and follow-through. Previous supervisory/administrative experience and knowledge of governmental processes. Must be able to work with a broad range of constituents through networking and/or strong oral/written communication skills.

    A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.


    Preferred Qualifications


    Master's degree preferred. Previous experience working with local government officials, specifically in Orange County. Familiarity with Orange County and California state and federal legislative delegations. Knowledge of the County of Orange, Fullerton, Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Placentia areas. Experience in a university/higher education setting; knowledge of working within a larger system and ability to collaborate within the CSU/Chancellor's office.

    A Valid California Driver's License.
