The Community Relations Coordinator

• Position entails writing, project management, community events, media relations, internal communications, awareness initiatives and managing special projects. 
• Coordinates various community Center-sponsored events and internal events.

1. Event Coordination

• Responsible for planning and coordinating the Center's various events such as ribbon cuttings, groundbreakings, outreach and awareness opportunities. Includes scheduling, packing supplies, and occasional set up & attendance.

2. Speakers Bureau/Chamber/Community Awareness Event Representative

• Responds to requests from the community to supply expert speakers and coordinate speaking engagements with program staff.
• Point of contact for partner agencies and Chamber organizations for community events and informational needs.
• Manages Community Relations aspects of the Center's awareness events, which includes engaging appropriate parties, internal communications, marketing and assisting with day-of needs.

3. Media Relations Support

• Assists director of community relations with writing and distributing press releases and coordinating media requests and interviews with McNabb staff.
  
  4. Dear Santa & Elf Shopping Coordinator

• Oversees the Center's Dear Santa program. This person will coordinate all holiday activities, including program-related holiday parties and residential client outings; "Elf Shopping;" and work with in-kind and financial donors wishing to sponsor programs during the holidays.
• Manages the Center's Holiday Wish List program and engages local businesses, community organizations and individual donors to maximize the number of clients served.

5. Donation/Community Fundraiser Coordinator

• Manages small community fundraisers to benefit the Center that fall outside the Foundation special event and campaign purview.
• Coordinates incoming program donations as well as donations for holidays and special events.

6. United Way Staff Campaign Coordinator

• Plans and executes activities in conjunction with Center leadership and program staff.

7. Supervisory Responsibilities

• May identify and supervise interns on an ongoing and rotating basis throughout the year.
• Identifies, hires and supervises seasonal PRN assistants ("Head Elf") to ensure the Dear Santa program is successful.

8. Support events (Center & Foundation) as needed.

9. This position is an in-person, exempt position with occasional nights and weekends. This position is based out of 200 Tech Center Dr., Knoxville, TN and requires occasional travel for meetings, training and events in the East Tennessee region.

• Monday - Friday 8am - 5pm This position is an in-person, exempt position with occasional nights and weekends.
  

Travel: 

• Requires occasional travel for meetings, training and events in the East Tennessee region.

Equipment/Technology: 

• Basic computer skills are required for email, timekeeping, and Canva.
• QUALIFICATIONS - Community Relations Coordinator

Education:

• Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a communications and/or community relations related discipline.

Experience / Knowledge:

• 3-5 years of experience in community relations, public relations or special event roles

Physical:

• Ability to lift 30 lbs.
• Hearing of normal/soft tones and close eye work.
• Valid driver's license.
• Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and reaching.
• Applicants should be able to exercise sound judgement under pressure.
