Community Relations & Marketing Specialist

  • Under limited supervision, accountable for organizing marketing task and activities including external and internal advertising campaigns. Preforms creative projects across all mediums including print, electronic, and online from conception to completion with minimal guidance. Design, create and coordinate marketing and advertising production related to promotional items, print, multimedia, and direct mailings. Maintains and updates material including all HRH literature and material, signage and maps. Additionally, works closely with different departments to create marketing materials that are effective for target audiences. Adheres to the mission, values and standards of excellence of Hawarden Regional Healthcare in all aspects of job performance.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:

    • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.
    • Researches, writes, edits and produces communication presentations in a variety of multi-media formats.
    • Prepares and disseminates memorandums, news releases, marketing materials and other correspondence for internal and external audiences. Ensures distribution to appropriate groups or individuals.
    • Uses good decision-making practices and a high competency for writing and communicating to internal and external audiences including the news media within the guidelines of HRH regulations.
    • Maintains awareness of current research, the marketplace, the competitive environment in order to recommend strategies and projects to the Administrator. Also involved in strategic planning for HRH.
    • Serves as a primary contact for the news media, and responds to media requests, arranges interviews, and recruits and prepares internal experts to respond in a timely fashion.
    • Enthusiastically supports the entire team as needed with all functions related to marketing.
    • Ensures ongoing organization, maintenance, and timely completion of regular and special administrative projects as assigned by the Administrator.
    • Responsible for researching and writing news stories and pitching the stories to local media.
    • Establishes and maintains good interdepartmental relationships and serves on internal committees as necessary, leads or co-leads employee excellence.
    • Assists or leads HRH sponsored community outreach to communities in our service area such as community education, wellness programs, social events, etc. with strategic initiatives and marketing strategies to promote HRH's services and providers.
    • Leads fundraising activities for the HRH Foundation to include external events or internal foundation activities.
    • Proactively monitors web content for necessary changes and maintains content accordance with organizational brand and style guidelines.
    • Works with internal and corporate IT departments as necessary to complete projects.
    • Manages HRH's intranet, blog, video and dissemination of internal communications with associates.
    • Monitors progress of marketing plans including preparation of and accountability for budget, including tracking of expenses and dollar value of free publicity. Produce analytical reports to demonstrate marketing progress.
    • Coordinates printing and design requests with department manager and serves as primary designer for print orders and services, both internally and externally.
    • Attention to detail and a passion for design and excellent communication skills. Has a desire to work with the public. Ability to work in a team-oriented work environment.
    • Demonstrates a high level of competency and fluency in utilization of computer equipment and software packages, including Word, Power Point, Excel, and Access. Also, has knowledge of graphic design programs.
    • Demonstrates general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)
    • Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.
    • Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.
    • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Requires a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field, or would consider 2 years related experience in lieu of every year of formal education.
    • Requires a minimum of one to three years of experience in media relations experience; preferably in a Healthcare setting.
    • Must be able to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with a high level of stress.
    • Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.
    • Requires professionalism in both dress and conduct on the job. Successful individual should be a mature executive with a professional appearance/demeanor, excellent character, integrity and commitment.
    • Excellent written/oral communication skills. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with staff, physicians, and other allied health professionals.
    • May be requested to travel within the region. When assigned to travel, a valid driver’s license and proof of insurance will be submitted to manager prior to travel.
    • Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.
    • Must possess a personal presence that is characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the philosophy, mission, vision, goals, and values of Hawarden Regional Healthcare.

    PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Must successfully pass pre-employment physical examination, drug screening, and must adhere to applicable organizational requirements on an annual basis for Employee Health Directives.
    • Must possess the ability to comply with Hawarden Regional Healthcare policies and procedures.
    • Has the physical stamina to meet the requirements of this job description, including frequent walking, bending, sitting, and standing. Knowledge of body mechanics necessary. Will need to handle, turn, life or lower objects usually of 20 pounds or less with the hand or hands.
    • Job generally requires long periods of sitting at a desk/computer and/or periods of bending (filing), walking or standing.
    • Ability to function under stressful situations.
    • Must understand and accept the possibility of exposure to environmental elements, such as inclement weather, dust, noise, chemicals and/or chemical fumes, and infectious disease.
    • Regular and physical attendance at work is an essential function of the job.
