Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Director, Revenue Compensation

As the Director of Revenue Compensation you will lead the overall strategic direction of our Revenue Incentive Compensation team. Your core responsibility will be to design, implement, manage and administer a best practice incentive compensation plan for a large global software organization. This includes innovating and evolving the current plan to align to business needs in the immediate future and for long term business growth.  You will also ensure all plans align to role expectations and that incentive compensation is paid timely. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Deploy revenue commission plans and quotas across the entire revenue organization, Marketing, Sales and Customer Success, in collaboration with Revenue Operations
    • Manage calculation and administration of commissions, ensuring timely and accurate payouts to all teams on variable compensation plans
    • Maintain an in-depth understanding of all commission plans and be able to effectively communicate rationale, strategy and calculations
    • Drive best practices for incentive compensation plan design and implementation
    • Work with the IT team to continuously enhance systems design and execution processes
    • Partner with Finance, Revenue Operations and Revenue leaders to ensure incentive plans include line-of-sight business metrics and drive intended expectations to achieve financial objectives
    • Manage the implementation of supplemental bonus programs for global Revenue team
    • Provide regular timely and accurate reporting and analysis on incentive compensation trending, payments and other related items
    • Provide analytical support regarding ad hoc research and other related variable pay projects as identified by management
    • Identify opportunities for process or systems improvements and work with incentive compensation team, system administration team, and revenue operations to bring these ideas to life
    • Continually evaluate our incentive compensation business processes and tools end-to-end with an eye toward scalability, streamlining, automation, efficiency gains, data accuracy, and business process controls
    • Collaborate on incentive compensation planning and design process with Revenue Operations
    • Ability to define, measure, and plan performance metrics to identify opportunities for improvements and savings, demonstrable ability to use such data to shape, form, and influence best practices in incentive compensation plan design and implementation
    • Drive analytics projects to provide deep insights into sales compensation program performance and go-forward strategy implications

    Required Qualifications:

    • 8 years of related work experience in a high growth technology company
    • 3 years of experience managing a team
    • Strong knowledge of revenue incentive compensation concepts, policies, and methodologies, as it relates to consumption and license based revenue models 

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Strong verbal, written and stakeholder management skills to effectively influence and manage expectations with executive management and cross-functional teams
    • Strong collaboration and teamwork needed to partner with peers on inter-department initiatives
    • Working knowledge with the SAP Callidus compensation system is strongly preferred
    • Strong organizational & time management skills; proven ability to effectively manage and complete multiple priorities and projects
    • Strong attention to detail
    • Highly developed analytical skills.
    • Team player with strong aptitude to work with cross functional teams

    Minimum salary of $105,400 to maximum $279,500.

    These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States.  An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.

    Location: In this role, you can work remotely from anywhere in the United States.
