Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Director of Safety and Worker's Compensation

The Director of Safety and Worker’s Compensation will develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization along with assessing and approving workers compensation benefits.

    Essential Functions:

    Safety:

    • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement safety policies and procedures.
    • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
    • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
    • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
    • Identifies opportunities to minimize workplace injuries, accidents, and health problems.
    • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
    • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
    • Reviews accident and incident reports.

    Environmental:

    • Conducts inspections to identify health and environmental risks.
    • Drafts inspection reports to document inspection findings.
    • Develops and implements inspection policies and procedures, and a schedule of routine inspections.
    • Prepares and schedules training to cover emergency procedures, workplace safety, and other relevant topics.
    • Ensures that material safety data sheets are maintained and readily accessible when needed.
    • Maintains records of discharge of or employee exposure to hazardous waste and/or pollutants, as required.

    Worker’s Compensation:

    • Reviews workers compensation claim forms.
    • Evaluates injury reports to assess compensation and to determine the anticipated cost of each claim.
    • Approves medical treatment, hospitalization, and surgery.
    • Calculates permanent disability ratings.
    • Coordinates payment of medical bills, disability compensation, and death benefits.
    • Maintains records, files, and databases of claims; prepares summary reports of collected data.
    • Provides client companies and employees with information and training regarding workers compensation benefits.

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety, Occupational Safety and Health, or related field required; Master’s degree desirable.
    • Ten years of related experience preferred.
    • Certifications preferred: EHS, OSHA, CESCO, ISO, Train the Trainer
    • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
    • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    • Proficient in technology and equipment used in environmental inspections.
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, ISNetworld, and other EHS & Worker’s Comp software.
    • Extensive knowledge and understanding of applicable workers compensation laws, procedures, and regulations.
    • Extensive knowledge of medical and technical terminology used in workers compensation cases.
    • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • May assist with performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.

    Work Environment:

    • Majority of the time is spent in an office environment outside of the fabrication shop.
    • Frequently required to sit, squat, talk and hear. 
    • Constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools or controls; and reach with hands and arms. 
    • Required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.
    • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
    • Specific vision abilities. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
    • Able to work at a sustained pace and produce quality work.
