Compensation and Benefits Director manages the design, implementation, administration, communication, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Ensures that compensation and benefits programs support the organization's business objectives and meet all legal requirements. Being a Compensation and Benefits Director develops and manages compensation and benefits budgets. Oversees compensation processes, including survey participation, job evaluation, salary structure development, base pay administration, incentive plan design and analysis. Additionally, Compensation and Benefits Director manages benefits planning and programs including health and welfare, retirement, and work life. May select and manage outsourced providers. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Compensation and Benefits Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation and Benefits Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     Job Summary

    The Director of Compensation will be responsible for overseeing the operations of the payroll department, ensuring accurate and timely compensation processing for a diverse workforce of 10,000 full and part-time employees within a public preK-12 school district in Tennessee.

    Essential Functions/Job Duties

    Leadership and Management:

    ● Lead and manage a team of staff members within the payroll department.

    ● Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure optimal performance and professional development of the team.

    ● Foster a collaborative and positive work environment. Compensation Strategy:

    ● Develop, implement, and manage compensation strategies and programs aligned with the school district's objectives.

    ● Conduct regular reviews of compensation structures to ensure compliance with applicable laws, Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, and payroll-related regulations.

    Payroll Operations:

    ● Oversee all aspects of the payroll process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the disbursement of salaries and wages, including applicable payroll related deductions..

    ● Collaborate with HR to maintain accurate employee records related to compensation and benefits.

    ● Collaborate with HR and IT to explore automated solutions to maximize efficiencies and productivity.

    Compliance and Regulations:

    ● Stay informed about and ensure compliance with payroll taxes, Department of Labor wage hour requirements, and other relevant regulations.

    Finance

    Director of Compensation

    ● Work closely with legal and compliance teams to address any issues and changes in legislation affecting compensation.

    Financial Management:

    ● Collaborate with the finance team to monitor and manage payroll expenditures , ensuring cost-effectiveness, accurate accounting, and alignment with overall financial goals within approved budgetary levels.

    ● Collaborate with the CFO and finance team on financial reporting and analysis related to compensation.

    Qualifications:

    ● A bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field; CPA or MBA preferred.

    ● Proven leadership experience, preferably in a large and complex organization (5 plus years of managerial experience preferred).

    ● In-depth knowledge of payroll processes, tax regulations, and Department of Labor wage hour requirements (especially as they relate to the public education sector).

    ● Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills.

    ● Experience working with enterprise ERP payroll systems.

    ● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

    ● Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

    ● Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.

    ● Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Pay: $70,632.00 - $112,112.00 per year
