Compensation and Benefits Supervisor leads a team in developing, implementing, communicating, and administering compensation and benefits programs, policies, and procedures. Being a Compensation and Benefits Supervisor coordinates with outsourced providers. May provide customer support to managers and staff with compensation or benefits questions. The Compensation and Benefits Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Compensation and Benefits Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Overview:

    The Compensation and Benefits Manager position, based in Nexion’s Corporate Office in Sykesville, Maryland, will report to the Vice President of Human Resources and play a critical role in managing employee compensation and benefits programs consistent with Nexion’s culture and commitment to ensure the well-being and satisfaction of healthcare facility and corporate staff. Responsibilities include the administration of compensation programs and management of employee benefits such as health, retirement plans, and other fringe benefits. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent customer support skills, experience administering self-funded health plans, and a thorough understanding of regulations related to employee compensation and benefits.


    Key Responsibilities:

    • Assist the VPHR in the planning, development, and implementation of employee compensation and benefits programs.
    • Administer compensation and incentive policies/programs and perform job benchmarking/market data analyses and make recommendations based on outcomes.  
    • Manage all aspects of employee benefits programs including health, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement plans, and other ancillary benefits.
    • Facilitate new employee benefit enrollments, manage changes during open enrollment periods, and ensure compliance with all benefit eligibility and regulatory requirements.
    • Manage annual employee enrollment in all benefit plans, ensuring eligible employees are offered enrollment in a timely manner throughout the year in compliance with applicable plans and ACA regulations; maintain accurate electronic benefit enrollment records and files.
    • Develop and deploy on-trend communication to educate employees about available benefits, eligibility criteria, and enrollment procedures. Serve as a primary point of contact for employee and third-party vendor inquiries and surveys related to benefits.
    • Provide efficient and effective customer support to all employees through responsive replies to inquiries, through vendors, and other effective communication channels to promote and administer benefit plans and statutory programs.
    • Assist employees with compensation and benefit-related inquiries, resolve issues related to claims processing, coverage disputes, and other benefit matters. 
    • Coordinate with health brokers/advisors, benefit plan providers, and third-party administrators to ensure seamless administration of benefit programs. 
    • Coordinate out-sourced benefit programs with vendors to ensure contract compliance, monitor vendor performance, and maintain program integrity and efficiency.
    • Work closely with corporate managers, and regional operations to support Nexion’s culture at both the corporate office and n all Nexion facilities.  
    • Ensure timely and accurate billing and payment processes; coordinate filing of 5500s and plan audits as needed, including annual 401(k) plan audit.
    • Provide guidance and training to all levels of employees regarding associate compensation and benefit programs, policies, and procedures.
    • Manage Nexion’s leave administration program and advise facility and corporate leadership related to FMLA, ADA, and other state mandated leaves.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal and state regulations governing employee compensation and benefits in the healthcare industry, such as DOL Wage and Hour, ERISA, HIPAA, COBRA, and Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current trends and practices in employee compensation and benefits and how they may affect plan design and/or changes.
    • Maintain accurate records of employee benefit elections, eligibility status, and related documentation. Generate reports as needed for internal audits, compliance reviews, management reporting, etc.
    • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop and update policies and procedures related to employee compensation and benefits administration. Recommend improvements to streamline processes and enhance the overall employee experience.
    • Support VPHR, HR Director, and HR Generalists in the resolution of issues and creation of solutions to enhance efficiency of administrative processes related to benefits, leave, worker injuries, unemployment, and other related HR programs/processes.
    • Advise and coordinate with facility Administrators and Payroll/HR Coordinators on benefits-related matters.
    • Perform other related administrative and support duties, as needed/assigned.


    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business administration, or related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of experience in compensation and benefits administration which included administering a self-funded health plan, 401(k)/409a, FSA, HSA, etc. preferably in a healthcare setting.
    • Experience deploying, communicating, and conducting open enrollment, and implementing open enrollment outcomes and elections.
    • Experience with annual benefits renewal process.
    • Track record of successful customer-facing experience related to compensation and benefits.
    • Strong understanding of employee compensation and benefits regulations, including DOL, HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA, etc.
    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex information so that it is understood by a diverse audience.
    • Proficiency in HRIS systems and benefit enrollment/administration platforms/software.
    • Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
    • Certification in benefits administration (e.g., CEBS, PHR, or SPHR) a ‘plus’ but not required.
