Compliance Director (Banking) manages operations to identify and respond to suspicious activity violating current anti-money laundering (AML) regulations as defined in the US Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) or other governmental anti-terrorist financing programs. Implements oversight systems, interdiction software, and audit processes to perform daily transaction monitoring and identify suspicious activity patterns. Being a Compliance Director (Banking) monitors activity and ensures adherence to Know your Customer (KYC) protocols and regulatory requirements for required filings and reporting. Leads investigations of suspicious activity to pursue corrective actions and ensure completion of required filings. Additionally, Compliance Director (Banking) maintains extensive knowledge of financial regulations, risk management best practices, and changing fraudulent trends to develop and implement appropriate compliance procedures. Delivers compliance training with up-to-date regulatory information and procedures to develop and guide well-informed staff. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. May have the Certified Anti Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) certification. Typically reports to a director. The Compliance Director (Banking) typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compliance Director (Banking) typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.   • The Role

    The Senior Director, Ethics and Compliance, is a leader on our Ethics and Compliance team and a member of the US Leadership Team. Reporting to the Chief Ethics, Compliance & Privacy Officer, with strong partnership with senior leaders across Legal, Commercial, Medical, Clinical, Regulatory, Manufacturing, Development, IT, Finance and HR to build and integrate appropriate local compliance controls with our global compliance program. This role will be responsible for establishing US compliance strategy and guidance to enable Moderna’s commercial and medical organizations while collaborating and coordinating with the Global compliance team. The ideal candidate will have deep US compliance experience and prior experience building local compliance programs at a global pharmaceutical company. This individual will also exhibit exceptional dynamic range, capable of quickly pivoting between global strategy and local operational execution, with a relentless focus on ensuring that the team can meet the needs of Moderna as it continues to scale.

    • Act with urgency: Establish strong working relationships quickly, ensuring that timely, thoughtful advice on compliance is given to key departments such as Commercial, Medical Affairs, and Clinical operations.     • Pursue options in parallel: Lead the US Compliance Committee while simultaneously engaging with the Executive Committee and the Board, evaluating multiple strategies and technologies to enhance the compliance program, making informed decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term goals.

    • Accept risk: Develop and implement US compliance strategies that recognize the inherent risks in the pharmaceutical industry, embracing these risks as necessary for impactful innovation and progress.

    Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

    • Bachelor's degree required.  MBA preferred.

    • 12 years of relevant global commercial, compliance and/or legal experience

    •  7 years of experience in a leadership position in a highly regulated industry, preferably in biopharma or life sciences industries

    • Experience managing US Compliance function for a multinational organization

    • Experience working in a heavily matrixed global organization

    • Proven success in leading teams

    Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

    • Working knowledge of relevant US compliance guidelines, regulations (AKS, FCA, FDCA, HIPAA, FCPA) and PhRMA Code principles

    • Proven experience in balancing country-level operational priorities with global compliance program development imperatives to ensure continuous improvement across multiple functions in a global company

    • Ability to work with senior management both in a strategic high-level counseling and advising mode, as well as tactically, to achieve daily, short-term and long-term company goals

    • Adept at balancing risk and opportunity and highly accountable environment where you can make a clear impact

    • Excellent, communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills and an ability to develop relevant and realistic plans, programs, and recommendations to influence great outcomes.

    • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple matters simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment, and to respond quickly, clearly and pragmatically to urgent situations and rapidly shifting priorities in ambiguous or challenging situations.
