  • Purpose
    This position is responsible for environmental auditing, training, and reporting to ensure on-going compliance of environmental rules and regulations with all levels of government including local, state and federal agencies. This position reports to the ME Superintendent and does not supervise any employees.
    Focus & Scope Essential duties and responsibilities, i.e. those which are basic, necessary, and an integral part of the job, are indicated below.
    Technical/Specialty Area
    • Possess a fundamental working understanding of relevant environmental rules and regulations so as to conduct professional environmental oversight and management of Teichert’s ME facilities.
    • Promote a Zero Injury culture through personal adherence to all company safety policies and practices.
    • Perform environmental compliance audits at ME shops to ensure environmental conformity with local, state, and federal ordinances and regulations.
    • Work effectively and collaboratively with environmental regulators, colleagues, management, and ME staff to ensure environmental compliance.
    • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for local, state, and federal regulatory agencies such as the water board, air district, etc. and maintains appropriate documentation.
    • Maintain data and documentation within the California Environmental Reporting System (CERS) for each of Teichert’s relevant facilities. Periodically inspect to ensure compliance.
    • Act as Company representative within professional and industry organizations concerning environmental issues that pertain to Mobile Equipment. Cultivate industry and regulatory contacts and attend related seminars and conferences.
    • Conduct feasibility studies and develop budgetary estimates on assigned projects.
    • Schedule State mandated fuel station testing and attend testing and CUPA environmental inspections.
    • Prepare and maintain Hazardous Materials Business Plans and maintain CERS (online) reporting.
    • Train and develop employees in the storage and handling of hazardous waste in accordance with government regulations.
    • Manage regulatory and environmental compliance and credential for shop facilities.
    • Attend seminars to maintain knowledge of current regulatory requirements.
    • Oversight of compliance program for the companywide Motor Carrier Permit.
    • Oversight of compliance program for cranes and pressure vessels.
    • Maintain driver post trip inspections and critical inspections for review during CHP audits.
    • Develop regulatory training material to train employees on environmental compliance.
    • Manage Fuel truck and trailer hazard permitting and process.
    • Participate in Corp sustainability efforts to maintain and update environment policies and procedures.
    • Manage CARB compliance (DOORS, TRUCRS, ACF) and update policies and procedures as necessary.
    • Create/update, implement, and maintain the Company’s DOT programs, with assistance from other divisions and department to ensure Teichert, Inc. is in compliance with local, federal, and state DOT and FMCSA regulations.
    • With the support and participation from the operations groups and DOT regulated drivers and their supervisors, execute oversight, monitoring, and reporting of the DOT related policies, files, records, and driver hour of service compliance for Teichert, Inc.
    • Develops and executes training plan for drivers across the enterprise who are subject to the DOT regulations.
    • Manages and oversees DOT administrative staff.

    Job Qualifications & Requirements
    • Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Engineering or related science field preferred.
    • Experience& Industry Expertise:
      • Minimum of five years of experience in Equipment, manufacturing, engineering or equivalent combination of technical training and related experience.
      • A solid understanding of environmental engineering philosophies, practices and terminologies. Familiarity with California and Nevada environmental laws and regulations preferred. Experience with the construction and materials industry a plus.
    • Specific Job Requirements:
      • Advanced knowledge of understanding construction/mobile equipment operation practices and policies.
      • Current on all company required safety and regulatory training.
      • Ability to preserve confidential, proprietary information and successfully avoid conflicts-of-interest.
      • Must possess the ability to interpret and communicate environmental regulations into easily understood concepts and practices.
      • Must possess the ability to work independently as well as maintain effective working relationships within a team environment.
      • Must develop and maintain strong working relationships with fellow employees, customers and agencies.
      • Must use initiative to research problem situations and resolve in a timely and effective manner with all employees, customers and agencies.
      • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
      • Must demonstrate strong organizational skills and time management practices.

    • Physical: Sitting for long periods of time working at the computer or driving to job sites.
