Compliance Manager manages the compliance programs, policies, reporting, and practices for an organization or business. Ensures that all activities follow regulatory requirements related to the governance of the organization as well as any industry-specific or location-specific laws. Being a Compliance Manager oversees internal controls and auditing systems that monitor and report on regulated activities and processes. Implements risk-based compliance testing of existing procedures and controls to identify, detect, and correct noncompliance. Additionally, Compliance Manager evaluates and implements changes to compliance processes due to new or amended regulations. Delivers communication and training initiatives that inform stakeholders about compliance requirements. Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Compliance Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Compliance Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     How will you make an impact in this role?

    This position will play a critical role within the Line of Business Compliance (LOBCO) organization supporting the U.S. Consumer deposits business, including Amex Rewards Checking Account and American Express Savings Accounts offered through American Express National Bank.

    The manager will provide strategic support to the U.S. Consumer deposit business’s innovation and growth while building and maintaining an effective framework for compliance with applicable laws and regulations for consumer deposit products, features, and processes. Attention will be focused on new product development, marketing strategies, risk management initiatives, process control, customer communications and issue management.

    The successful candidate will proactively manage an effective compliance risk management oversight program for the U.S. Consumer deposits business, as well as provide risk management advisory services to promote safe, scalable innovation across the deposit portfolio.

    Responsibilities

    • Provide solution-oriented compliance support to assist the U.S. Consumer deposit team in reaching their goals, while meeting compliance requirements.
    • Support new initiatives through the New Product Governance process, with a strong analytical focus on controls, testing, and ongoing monitoring to implement effective processes.
    • Review proposed marketing campaign materials and strategies, to effectively mitigate compliance risks.
    • Assess servicing and regulatory-driven customer communications and disclosures.
    • Effectively manage the Issue Management process to support timely closure of control gaps and customer remediation where required.
    • Support an effective Compliance program including Compliance Risk Assessments.
    • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with business partners and internal stakeholders (e.g., other Global Risk and Compliance colleagues, General Counsel Office, Operational Excellence, Independent Compliance Testing, Privacy, Internal Audit Group).

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Demonstrated regulatory knowledge of consumer deposit banking regulations, including UDAAP, Regulations DD, E, CC, and related guidance & supervisory opinions.
    • Prior compliance, legal or risk experience with the end-to-end deposit life cycle,    including account acquisition, ATM, debit cards, money movement, servicing, and account restrictions.
    • Ability to research, assess, and determine regulatory impact to business initiatives.
    • Ability to exercise sound judgment and influence decisions in the development and selection of compliant solutions.
    • Strong project management skills, ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
    • Demonstrated ability to make decisions independently, work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and adapt easily to frequent change.
    • Strong creativity and collaborative skills, and experience working in a matrixed and agile environment and on cross-functional teams.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
    • Proactive, results-oriented, and self-driven.
    • Experience with digital and mobile banking products & platforms preferred.
    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM) or similar professional certification preferred.

    Salary Range: $90,000.00 to $165,000.00 annually bonus benefits
