Computer Operations Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective management of an organization's computer operations. Implements department policies and procedures to effectively operate and maintain computer systems and peripherals. Being a Computer Operations Manager manages the operation of information system equipment including scheduling workflow, maintenance, and capacity plans. Continuously monitors the efficacy of computer operations, backup processes, system monitors, and server availability to ensure operation goals are met. Additionally, Computer Operations Manager researches and evaluates potential equipment upgrades to improve the capabilities of computer operations. Ensures computer operations activities meet pre-established production targets and maintain operating budgets. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Computer Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Computer Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Scope / Complexity:

    Supervises computer operations and is responsible for day-to-day assignments to staff, and the follow up of their work performance. Manages the daily activities to resolve problems and change management issues. Responsible for production systems ' online response time. Maintains system availability, prepares metrics to evaluate systems performance, and works with IT groups and users to ensure the service objectives are met. Works on one or more projects as a project team member, occasionally as a project leader. May coach one more or more team members on Infrastructure related work functions.

    Applicant Expectations:

    Skilled in the planning, forecasting, implementation, and identification of requirements for end users and technology customers.

    Highly skilled at managing and configuring startup, installation and maintenance of work station and end user technologies.

    Must have knowledge and experience supporting with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, VOIP, DHCP, and desktop topology to achieve a high Quality of Service.

    Skilled at monitoring computer operating systems, performs system tuning and makes recommendations for improvement.

    Skilled at monitoring, troubleshooting and maintaining end user hardware including hard drives, memory chips, mother boards, process replacements, HDMI, DVI, peripheral cards, network interface cards, and remote connectivity.

    Must have five or more years work experience in computer operations with exposure to multi-platform environments. This work experience should include one or more years in leading teams and projects,

    Must have the ability to perform capacity and resource planning, assessing service level agreements compliance and contingency planning.

    Ability to communicate technical information in a simplistic manner to customers including but not limited to new technologies, team projects and new equipment/applications.

    Must have the ability to maintain and utilize technology tools to identify faults, to ensure the provision of data or other telecommunications access to customers, and the movement of information from one location to the other.

    Should have completed pertinent IT training related to use and management of desktop including but not limited to Microsoft products.

    Anticipated Duties:

    Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of workstations, software, and other end user technologies; researching, analyzing and implementing software patches or hardware changes to fix any workstation deficiencies.

    Responsible for desktop configuration, maintenance, monitoring and other various end user security measures.

    Reviews requests for technology resources. Advises customers of solutions, changes, and implements necessary controls to ensure the compliance with the acquisition process for information technology and other IT procedures.

    As directed develops a technology assessment that includes the identification of systems, hardware, software, operational, work load and technology resource priorities. Confers with, defines and assists technology supervisors in the implementation of established plan to ensure timely processing and completion of responsibilities.

    Advises and works closely with the Information Technology Service Managerial Staff on the coordination of Information Technology activities, projects and initiatives. As directed ensures team participation on task assignments, provides input and represents district interest and concerns. Interprets policies, procedures and rules as needed, providing comments and/or communicating changes to district managers and users.

    As selected, serve as a member of various technology advisory teams attending mandated meetings and teleconferences. Such participation and duties includes but is not limited to technology research, evaluation, deployment and development of industry products.

    Assists in the development and implementation of security policies, procedures and measures in a computing environment.

    Performs security assessments and reviews technology initiatives for security compliance.

    Prepares status reports on technology related matters to develop risk analysis scenarios and response procedures. Involved in the continual improvement of technology customer service and the implementation of approved solutions.

    Evaluates and recommends technology products for various platforms in an end user computing environment. Educates users about security policies and consults on safeguarding issues. Must have broad technical knowledge of client/server, local area network topology and desktop security.

    Analyze the business requirements for various hardware and lifecycle architecture.

    Must be a team player

    Performs other duties as assigned.

    Desired Experience:

    Typically has 5 to 7 years of IT work experience in compute operations with exposure to multi-platform environments. Requires experience in leading teams and projects. First level management in work station customer service operations. Works under the direction of middle level management. Manages multiple processes within the technology service and support area. Manages and mentor technical staff.
