Computer Operations Manager is responsible for the efficient and effective management of an organization's computer operations. Implements department policies and procedures to effectively operate and maintain computer systems and peripherals. Being a Computer Operations Manager manages the operation of information system equipment including scheduling workflow, maintenance, and capacity plans. Continuously monitors the efficacy of computer operations, backup processes, system monitors, and server availability to ensure operation goals are met. Additionally, Computer Operations Manager researches and evaluates potential equipment upgrades to improve the capabilities of computer operations. Ensures computer operations activities meet pre-established production targets and maintain operating budgets. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The Computer Operations Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Computer Operations Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1-3 years supervisory experience may be required.     • Enforce the Department's change management process related to changes and software installation and ensure the timing of the changes does not jeopardize the availability and reliability of the systems.
    • Ensure the existence and fine tuning of policies and processes needed for immediately addressing urgent problem troubleshooting, and problem solving. Collaborate and work closely with customers to identify areas to enhance the customer experience.
    • Take a lead role in the evaluation, implementation, support and maintenance of the systems and applications that are conducive to a strong cybersecurity program. Coordinate with the sister groups at Computer Operations and other CECONY staff, e.g., Information Technology (IT) as necessary.
    • Be responsible for the supervision of System Operation cybersecurity program. Promote best practices and enforce the use of cyber security tools and policies to ensure the monitoring, tracking and improving the security of all systems, networks and electronic information.
    • Direct and manage the design, development and implementation and ongoing operation of local and wide area networks for System Operation. Direct the identification, justification, development and implementation of new ideas, equipment, systems, etc.
    • Provide technical consultation on hardware and software and coordinate with other Department teams and lead the efforts to support, patch and maintain the Department's assets.
    • Participate in developing the vision for the system direction and manage the development of and migrating to new computer systems.
    • Represent the Department on technical projects and arrange for direct support by outside vendors, as required.
    • Support remote terminal unit (RTU) communications and communications with outside entities such as PSE&G and New York Independent System Operator (NYISO).
    • Manage assigned Capital projects and other tasks as directed by the leadership.

    Required Education/Experience

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 8 years relevant work experience or
    • Master's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and 6 years relevant work experience

    Relevant Work Experience

    • Experience in computer network design, including knowledge of firewalls, switches, VLANs, etc. Required
    • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications. Required
    • Strong organizational and administrative skills are essential as well as the ability to adhere to schedules and meet deadlines. Required
    • Be able to deliver exemplary customer service and develop a team spirited work environment in support of Con Edison's corporate values and mission. Required
    • Possess effective oral and written communication skills, champion change and have the ability to influence others in order to improve the management process. Required
    • Be well organized, detail oriented, flexible to handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines. Required
    • Be able to exercise independent judgment and possess the ability to render sound business decisions. Required
    • Experience with database engines such as SQL and reporting. Preferred
    • Be familiar with application development lifecycle and common development preforms. Preferred
    • Familiarity with document management system such as SharePoint. Preferred
    • Understanding of energy utility industry. Preferred

    Other Physical Demands

    • Must be able to respond to Company emergencies by performing a System Emergency Assignment to restore service to our customers.
    • This position may require local and out of town travel and representation of the Company at industry meetings.
    • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
    • Must be willing and available to be on call, work off shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as operating and system conditions require.
