Job Duties and Responsibilities
The CAIL director will develop an extramurally funded chemical analysis research program, including.
high-resolution mass spectrometry capability and will establish a CAIL user program that serves the broader NMSU research community. Example applications include plant metabolomics and the nontargeted analysis of groundwater, soil, or biological samples. The director will formulate and pursue novel lines of scientific inquiry that lead to peer-reviewed publications and funded research projects, both as a principal investigator and collaborator with other NMSU faculty and outside collaborators. The director will submit proposals to acquire new instruments and analytical capabilities through applicable research instrumentation grants after consultation with NMSU faculty and collaborators. The director will develop the core facility’s long-term plan and vision, oversee daily laboratory operations, and train students and postdocs. The director will manage the laboratory supply chain, budget, finances and staffing, and allocate facility resources.
