Conservation Technician maintains the authenticity and overall appearance of art objects. Conducts analysis to determine appropriate method for cleaning and repairing objects. Being a Conservation Technician may require an associate's degree or its equivalent and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Additionally, Conservation Technician relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Assist with all aspects of Bureau of Wildlife work, primarily in the northern part of Region 9, including but not limited to: habitat and access work on Wildlife Management Areas, wildlife surveys, big game harvest data collection, Chronic Wasting Disease monitoring, colonial waterbird work, upland game bird work, waterfowl banding, raptor monitoring, nuisance wildlife response, wildlife health monitoring, and providing information to the public.
Candidate will be required to answer wildlife calls from the public, answer office visitor inquiries, issue nuisance wildlife permits, maintain databases, ship pathology specimens, and assist with lab maintenance and inventory during assigned office duty (~2 days/week).
Candidate will be required to work in rough terrain, all weather conditions, and carry field equipment. Candidate should be comfortable working on a boat. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule when needed to accommodate field work. Good communication, organizational, and computer skills are essential.
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Travel may be required. Overnight travel may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
This is a seasonal, hourly appointment with an anticipated end date of 03/31/2023. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date. Actual work schedule, duties and travel requirements may vary and will be discussed at the interview.
