    Job Description:

    Thornton Construction Company is looking for a qualified and experienced Safety Coordinator to join our team. The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining a comprehensive safety program for our company. This includes:

    • Conduct workplace jobsite safety inspections and identifying hazardous conditions
    • Conducts safety stand down meetings as a result of a safety deficiency on site
    • Developing and delivering safety training programs to our employees
    • Investigating accidents and incidents and implementing corrective actions/ identifying root cause and contributing causes
    • Ensuring compliance with all applicable safety regulations of 1926 & 1910
    • Maintaining safety records
    • Advising management on safety matters
    • Safety orientation for new employees entering the jobsite
    • Performs PPE inspections when applicable and maintain log with inspection dates
    • Honors and protects confidential and proprietary documents and information

    The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of occupational safety and health principles and practices. Experience in developing and implementing safety programs is preferred.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Bachelor’s degree in occupational safety and health or 3 years of experience in the construction industry
    • 3 years of construction experience in a safety related position
    • Strong understanding of OSHA and other applicable safety regulations
    • Excellent communication in English/Spanish and interpersonal skills
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
    • Possess an OSHA 30 minimum preferably OSHA 510 & 500
    • Minimum 18 years of age
    • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record
    • Successful Pre-Employment Drug Test
    • Successful Background Investigation
    • Capacity to be proactive and effectively communicate with and influence others
    • Possess strong computer skills Microsoft Office (Words, PowerPoint, and Excel)
    • Need to withstand demands of extreme weather conditions and high temperatures
    • Need to be physically fit and able to lift more than 50 lbs., frequently bending over when necessary
    • Must be able to climb ladders to access a roof (Extension, Fixed, etc.)
    • Ability to work in a safe professional manner adhering to all regulatory requirements including, OSHA, State and Federal regulations
