Responsible for successfully managing the execution of the production activities of the build schedule for the assigned construction zone on an assigned OPC hull. Ensures the established program objectives and contract specifications are completed on schedule and within budget while still maintaining quality. This role is a Senior Level Manufacturing position responsible for leading the execution of production activities for a specific zone on the vessel under construction. This position will be supported by middle and front-line supervision from multiple trades. This position involves frequent regular interaction with Senior Production and Program Management team members. This position requires regular contact with our customer teams, ABS, USCG.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.
· Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
· Supervises, assigns, coordinates, and evaluates semi-skilled and skilled trades personnel according to their skill, experience, and job knowledge as well as the stage of ship construction within their assigned zone in coordination with the Vessel Construction Manager.
· Assess progress on production orders schedules to the program plan and allocate area resources.
· Responsible for complying with all technical aspects of the job including adherence to all drawings, procedures, etc.
· Sets clear performance goals, objectives, and expectations for Production Supervision within their assigned zone. Holds Production Supervision responsible and accountable for cost schedule and quality performance within their areas of responsibility.
· Ensures the Vessel Construction Manager, Hull Project Management, and Production Management stays informed of Hull’s progress and challenges with a focus on developing solutions to such challenges.
· Assures appropriate daily project resource staffing. Monitors job progress to ensure that manpower utilization and allocation meets job requirements. Works with the Vessel Construction Manager to make appropriate changes as necessary.
· Working with the Vessel Construction Manager the candidate will communicate and drive the project schedule as defined by Hull Project Management.
· Drive focus and adherence to safety and cleanliness standards on the project.
· Investigate safety hazards and manage all other risks by implementing appropriate corrective action.
· Report on progress and related metrics as established.
· Collaborate with superintendents to address construction challenges and determine the best path forward.
· Support the Vessel Construction Manager in their duty to maintain cooperation with customers and other stakeholders to facilitate project activities and ensure expected project performance.
· Manages Craft Supervisors within their assigned zone in coordination with the Vessel Construction Manager.
· Maintain a commitment to, and promote, the Quality Policy.
· Abide by and enforce all organizational policies and procedures.
· Ability to demonstrate effective trouble shooting and problem-solving skills
· Coordination of timely Lien signoffs that reduces ships DD250 package
· Work with Planning & Scheduling to develop sequence plans for compartment closeout
· Work with teams to ensure systems/compartments assigned, are properly sequenced to meet Milestone criteria, such as Launch, Electrical Light Off (ELO), Air Conditioning Initial Light Off AC ILO, etc.
· Work with Ship Test Lead to ensure completion of system installation in support of system set to work and operational tests within their zone.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position is responsible for the direct supervision of the crafts assigned to their vessel zone.
Reporting Relationship
§ This position will report to Vessel Construction Manager
Qualifications:
· Qualified candidates must have a High School Diploma or equivalent and at least five (5) years of trade experience.
· Two (2) years of ship management experience is required.
· Preference is given to those with experience in a manufacturing or shipbuilding environment.
· An associate degree or bachelor’s degree is a plus.
· Experience with project control systems such as EVMS is a plus.
Skills:
· Essential to this position is the ability to lead, direct, coach, and discipline employees in alignment with Company processes, policies, and procedures.
· Ability to read blueprints
· Must have strong Microsoft Office Suites computer skills.
· Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
· Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor in stressful situations
· Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
· Must have ability to maintain confidentiality
