As the Vice President of Consumer Lending, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of consumer lending operations, programs, and loan portfolios. You will also provide strategic guidance to operations, processes, and initiatives, ensuring that UHCU remains a leading lender by offering relevant and up-to-date programs that capitalize on market trends. Working closely with the Chief Lending Officer (CLO), you will utilize your expertise in Consumer Lending to achieve objectives, goals, activities, and service level expectations while maintaining in depth knowledge of UHCU's lending products, services, and systems.

    In addition, you will play a vital role in Consumer Lending Operations by recommending system and service improvements, developing loan promotion programs, and providing rate recommendations.     Responsibilities:

    The Vice President of Consumer Lending will partner closely with the CLO to focus on oversight and strategic guidance to all areas of consumer lending to include the sales, service, and production teams. These teams cover lending products such as automobile (direct & indirect), recreational vehicles, personal loans, credit cards, student loans, and repossession resales. You will responsible for ensuring positive relationships and quality interactions with internal and external stakeholders.

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained within operational plans and performs necessary personnel actions such as interviewing, hiring, transfers, promotions, disciplinary actions and terminations.
    • Implement and enhance consistent coaching, and sales and service training programs to ensure a consistent and memorable member experience.

    Strategic Execution

    • Provide strategic direction to UHCU's consumer lending programs, making recommendations as needed to ensure UHCU is a leading lender and strategically positioned to take advantage of all current and evolving market opportunities.
    • Participate in UHCU strategic planning and budget processes, bringing strategic direction to consumer lending initiatives.
    • Conduct ongoing productivity analyses and forecasts and initiates appropriate actions to deliver strategic and financial goals of the Consumer Lending department. Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of segments of the consumer lending process through operational statistics and reports.
    • Develop promotional strategies to increase utilization of Credit Union products and services among existing members while acquiring new households. Promote cross-selling of existing products and prospecting for new opportunities.
    • Actively participate in community, networking and other Credit Union sponsored events in order to retain current members and bring new business to the organization.

    Consumer Lending

    • Monitor local, regional and national markets for the latest opportunities in consumer lending and consumer lending related programs and inform the CLO of such opportunities while providing recommendations.
    • Oversee operational aspects of consumer lending programs, directing staff as needed to achieve efficient, effective operations.
    • Ensure staff is qualified, knowledgeable, managed and well-trained in the performance of their duties and effectively cross trained, resulting in quality loan origination and servicing experience for member borrowers.
    • Assist in the development of on-going loan promotional programs and make rate recommendations based upon market surveys.
    • Serve as point of contact for escalated member issues with a goal of retaining membership and reducing organizational risk.
    • Make decisions on specific borrower loan requests, as needed, in adherence with UHCU underwriting standards.
    • Directly coordinate monthly Board reporting with the CLO & CEO, attend board meetings, and serve on UHCU committees.
    • Demonstrate personal commitment to continuing education and consumer loan training.

    Member Excellence, Quality & Compliance

    • Monitor portfolio concentration levels via system generated reporting. Make recommendations based on market adjustments and conditions. Report any trends or recommendations to the CLO.
    • Directly oversee consumer lending policies and procedures, ensuring they are reflective of UHCU's operations and in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
    • Directly oversee underwriting guidelines, ensuring conformity with consumer lending policies and adherence to applicable rules and regulations.
    • Directly oversee effective utilization of consumer loan staff pay plans, making recommendations for change as warranted.
    • Ensure any operational failures are quickly identified and communicated to external and internal business partners to maintain system health and operational benefits.
    • Serve as point of contact for audits; schedules and oversees internal and external audits, as applicable.

    Vendor Management

    • Build, maintain, and continuously evaluate third-party vendor relationships in order to maintain organizational workflow.
    • Partner with Compliance for vendor relationships, including contract negotiation and due diligence, renewals and periodic reviews.
    • Collaborate with vendors to open cases and resolves issues and proactively develops internal procedures.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Management, Finance, or other related field.
    • 5-7 years of demonstrated financial institution related experience with progressive leadership responsibilities related to high level consumer lending sales and operations
    • Strong working knowledge of consumer lending operations in a financial institution environment. Consumer lending operations include, but are not limited to, all aspects of indirect auto, direct auto, credit card and unsecured programs.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of customer satisfaction reporting, analysis and interpretation of data into actionable plans.
    • Exceptional knowledge of state and federal financial institution regulations, policies, and procedures.
    • Advanced knowledge of consumer lending loan originations systems and documentation preparation processes
    • Ability to assess, analyze and interpret common and technical journals, regulations, statutes, financial reports and legal documents.
    • Ability to effectively present information/proposals to top management, public groups and the Board of Directors
    • Demonstrated ability to direct consumer lending operations staff to insure effective and efficient departmental performance.
    • Experience with Risk Assessment and demonstrated ability to identify and monitor portfolio concentration levels.
    • Working knowledge of all compliance requirements applicable to consumer lending programs.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master of Business Administration (MBA) or advanced degree.
    • 7 years of experience in a financial institution or related industry with progressive responsibilities related to high functioning consumer lending sales and operations.
    • Knowledge and experience within Sync1 consumer loan origination system
