ROLE:

Primarily responsible for limiting the Credit Union's risk of losses by monitoring the quality of the loan portfolio and keeping management informed of potential losses, trends, and compliance problems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Selects an adequate sample of loans to evaluate for credit risk according to predetermined factors, such as geographical location, type, and amount of loan; records data on work sheet, including purpose of loan, balance, collateral, and repayment terms.
• Conducts in-depth reviews of the selected loan files to detect deficiencies in underwriting, documentation, compliance, and servicing aspects.
• Identifies problem loans and describes deficiencies; communicates exceptions to staff; follow-up to ensure errors and inconsistencies have been resolved.
• Identifies areas of concern from lending reviews and assists in the development of solutions to address areas of weakness.
• Tracks and maintains the Loan Review Report, notating any exceptions to policies, procedures, or regulations. Communicates loan review results to management.
• Performs other quality control reviews, as assigned, in accordance with Credit Union policies and procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Assists Internal Audit with various tasks, as assigned.
• Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Experience:

• Three years to five years of similar or related experience.
• Willingness to obtain industry certification (Certified Credit Union Internal Auditor) - Can be obtained during employment.
• Knowledge of credit union lending policies and procedures preferred

Education: (1)A two-year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program.

Interpersonal Skills: This position requires a significant level of courtesy, diplomacy, and tact. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the organization for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

• Knowledge of BSA/OFAC compliance and be able to assist members with questions concerning BSA. Complete yearly training.
