Sanitation Collection Supervisor

  • This is important supervisory work in directing assigned field operations of solid waste collection, brush collection and related disposal activities in an assigned area of the City. Work involves extensive public contact which requires the exercise of considerable tact and diplomacy. Work includes responsibility for making route assignments; supervising crews; assisting in the selection, training, placement, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned personnel; conducting field inspections of residences, businesses and industrial establishments to determine conformity to City regulations; and monitoring budget and overtime expenditures. Duties may also include participation in route planning for new routes or the redesign of old routes. An employee in this class exercises moderate independent judgment and initiative in carrying out assignments and must be able to supervise weekend work and special activities.

    Salary: $26.05 - $41.01 Hourly

    Minimum Qualifications.
    Applicants must:

    • Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency.
    • Possess and continue to maintain a valid State of Florida Class "B" Commercial Driver License.
    • Have some supervisory experience.
    • Have received some training in municipal solid waste collection and disposal.
    • Have considerable experience in solid waste collection and disposal.
    • Are able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.

    Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

    • Have thorough knowledge of ordinances, rules and regulations governing solid waste collection within the City and of modern methods and techniques of solid waste collection and disposal.
    • Are able to plan, lay out, coordinate, schedule and effectively supervise the work of personnel.
    • Are able to maintain accurate detailed records and prepare reports of activities.
    • Are able to enforce regulations firmly, tactfully and impartially.
    • Are able to participate in and support special neighborhood and community events.
