Job Summary:
Meat Packers are responsible for receiving, storing, wrapping, weighing, pricing, merchandising, and rotation of meat department products.  Meat Packers work with equipment like wrapping machines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Uses machines such as grinders or slicers to cut meat into smaller pieces
• Packs meat cuts or poultry in boxes or plastic bags for sale at grocery stores or supermarkets
• Inspects products for damage or defects before wrapping them in plastic wrap or butcher paper
• Wraps meats in plastic or butcher paper in order to keep them fresh and prevent spoilage
• Cleans work areas and equipment after each use
• Stores items in refrigerators or freezers until they are ready to be sold
• Slits plastic bags along seams with a knife or blade in order to maker them easier to open
• Wraps meat in plastic or paper for storage or shipping to other locations
• Slices meat into thin strips using a band saw or other cutting device

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Reliability
• Ability to learn and follow strict, process-driven tasks

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• On-the-job training available

Physical Requirements:

• Able to stand for long periods of time, positioning on stools or ladders
• Able to lift heavy packages of meat up to 90 lbs
• Must be able to stomach strong smells and graphic imagery
• Must be able to work in an environment that is usually cold and wet

Compensation Information:

• Hourly range for this position is $16 - $20 per hour
