    We are seeking a Consumer Lending Coach Underwriter to join our team!

    The Consumer Lending Coach Underwriter will assist in the development and execution of training initiatives for all branch staff engaged in consumer lending (also referred to as “loan officers”); train, coach, and mentor consumer loan officers in the areas of consumer lending compliance, underwriting, product knowledge, and other topics relevant to consumer lending. The Consumer Lending Coach Underwriter will be responsible for handling all logistical tasks associated with training, including but not limited to, communicating, scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring. This role will support the central underwriting team by underwriting loans submitted to the loan queues. The Consumer Lending Coach Underwriter will assist in decisioning loan applications to ensure appropriate turn-around time on loan requests.

    WHAT You’ll Do:

    • Create a process for assessing the needs of the loan officers on an ongoing basis and create training or resource materials to support them.
    • Plan, organize, and facilitate training activities in person and via virtual meeting resources such as MS Teams.
    • Develop and maintain materials and tools that will serve as training/coaching resources.
    • Create training materials on relevant lending topics.
    • Routinely assess the effectiveness of the training to identify areas of opportunity and create action plans for periodic improvements.
    • Create a routine for supporting the effective onboarding, training, and development of new(er) loan officers.
    • Conduct in-person visits to loan officers in their branch environments.
    • Observe loan officer and member interactions to provide feedback and guidance.
    • Leverage observations to inform on training topics.
    • Create a routine for identifying loan officers who demonstrate strength in consumer lending consistently and develop them to becoming regional consumer lending mentors.
    • Support the Central Underwriting team by decisioning loan applications sent to the underwriting queues.
    • Use data to identify common errors, trends, and loan officers with the greatest training need.
    • Provide coaching via the loan journal comments.
    • Communicate and partner with other members of the Central Underwriting team to wholistically support loan officers and help achieve the organization’s consumer lending goals.
    • Perform other duties as may be deemed necessary.

    WHAT You’ll Need:

    • High School diploma and 2 years of experience in decentralized consumer lending and/or consumer loan underwriting OR equivalent related experience.
    • Training or coaching experience preferred.
    • Strong commitment to our mission – creating economic opportunity for traditionally underserved communities.
    • Preference for working in organizations that place priority on teamwork and collaboration.
    • Bilingual preferred.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Proficient in MS Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams).
    • Proficiency in loan origination software preferred.
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, learn new things, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and multi-task effectively.
    • Comfortable in working with technology.
    • Ability to hold staff accountable while maintaining positive working relationships.
    • Ability and willingness to work beyond normal work hours as needed and travel up to 25%.
