Job Summary:
With a mission to inspire conservation of the ocean, the Monterey Bay Aquarium (the Aquarium) is the most admired aquarium in the United States, a leader in science education, and a voice for ocean conservation through comprehensive programs in marine science and public policy. Everything we do works in concert to protect the future of our blue planet. Founded in 1984, the Aquarium is known for our focus on local and global research and conservation efforts, excellence in exhibits and educational programs, and animal husbandry techniques.
The Marketing department plays a crucial role in driving attendance, revenue, and advancing the Aquarium's mission of inspiring ocean conservation. We achieve this by crafting captivating stories, creating visually appealing designs, capturing moments through photography, and communicating the Aquarium's work through news media, social media, and advertising. We foster relationships with existing guests, and new audiences, encouraging people to take action: to purchase tickets, donate money, or become advocates.
We are looking for an intern who will (under direct supervision) contribute to the development of content on our social media channels through writing and image selection, photography and filming short video clips. This intern will encourage audience engagement and moderate online conversations on our social channels. They'll respond sensitively to breaking news and rapidly developing conversations that can spread quickly (i.e., "go viral") on social media without warning. While this role will be focused on social media, it will also support content creation for our web, email, and texting program channels.
