Job Description
Performs routine engineering work requiring application of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria in carrying out a sequence of related technical tasks. Prepares reports, drawings, and other documentation as required. Performs engineering functions associated with marine coatings, corrosion control methodologies, and marine deck coverings. Applies professional engineering standard practices and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates data, recognizes discrepancies in results and follows engineering operations through a series of detailed steps or processes. Makes recommendations based on results to higher level engineers. Uses logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems. May involve gathering of data while observing shipboard operations.
Individual may provide support in the following areas: technical design for coatings, deck coverings, and corrosion control methods; resolution of technical problems for system(s) under his/her cognizance; development of procurement specifications, technical purchase requisition statements of work, and supporting calculations/analysis; detail design, manufacturing, quality assurance, material, test and trials and other organizations; providing technical expertise as necessary to support his/her cognizant area; and sea trials, test, etc as necessary. Individual will assure that system(s) under his/her cognizance complies with ship specifications, regulatory body and related documents as well as participate in the conceptual, preliminary and final design analysis of ocean-going vessels, consisting of: preparation of specifications, system diagrams, drawings, and corrosion control reviews. Individual may review detail design drawings for the systems he/she is responsible for, to ensure proper integration of machinery and system components into the detail design to meet the requirements of the contract as well as prepare and present all required technical design reviews for systems under his/her cognizance, or assist the responsible system engineer as determined by management. Individual may initiate requests for the following: waivers and deviations and review and act on vendor submittals as necessary to support his/her area of cognizance; to have contract documents revised or clarified. Individual may: respond to Customer Quality Deficiency reports; review, evaluate and pass on technical data received concerning his/her system, to other disciplines to ensure all interface requirements support his/her system; and conduct field evaluations to expedite repairs of damaged coatings or assist Operations in trouble shooting.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and 2 years of relevant professional experience, 0 years of relevant professional experience with Master's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of Fleet Sustainment Engineering processes and an overall understanding of Fleet Sustainment. Strong background Microsoft Access database management and VBA. Will be required to support and maintain a number of ongoing projects.
