    This is a hybrid position.

    Job Title: Communications Specialist 2

    Summary:

    Responsible for a wide variety of internal and external communications activities, strategic and tactical, conceptual and deliverable. Attains measurable results and improves continuously.


    An experienced professional with a full understanding of specialized area plus working knowledge of related ?elds. Adept at solving a range of complex problems. Contributes to the development of organization's goals and objectives. Works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Demonstrates good judgment. Determines approach to solutions, plans and schedules activities to accomplish objectives. Must be receptive to coaching, education, and constructive criticism. Must learn to provide e?ective feedback to others, upward and downward.


    As a Web Content Specialist 2, you will collaborate with Visual Designers, Developers, and Communications Specialists to plan, develop, and produce high-quality webpages. You will interact with stakeholders and subject matter experts to format, review, and approve new and updated website content. You will use your expertise to de?ne and create innovative web experiences through content modeling, information architecture, and metric- driven reporting.


    Minimum Job Requirements:


    Knowledge and Expertise:

    • Intermediate pro?ciency in the communication ?eld. Has a general understanding of written, visual and interactive communication, with a focus in Web Experience.
    • Intermediate pro?ciency in copyediting or web-related writing and various writing styles.
    • Intermediate pro?ciency in visual and interactive design as it relates to digital content creation, and the software used to do so.
    • Ability to translate complex, technical and jargonized content into a format appropriate for the web.
    • Ability to organize content into site maps and content models that provide a good UX, synergize with design standards, and lend themselves to logical and e?cient implementations.
    • Thorough understanding of digital communication standards, guidelines, and best practices, especially as they relate to UX, SEO and accessibility.

    Tools and Systems:

    • Experience developing, formatting, and publishing web content in a web authoring software or Content Management System (CMS). Experience working with a WYSIWYG to input formatted text as HTML or Markdown and the ability to edit HTML/Markdown directly.
    • Experience creating and editing visual content using visual design software. Experience laying out written, visual and interactive content in templates, using design software, to
    • plan the implementation of complete digital experiences.
    • Experience using tools and methods for information architecture activities such as creating site maps, de?ning content models and de?ning content relationships.
    • Experience collecting metrics from analytics software (e.g. Google Analytics, etc). Demonstrated ability to gather and interpret usage data for the purpose of user testing, measuring success, and reporting to stakeholders.

    Communication:

    • Ability to conceptualize and communicate program requirements and detailed elements to both technical and non-technical personnel. Demonstrated skill with interpersonal, written, and verbal communication.
    • Organization skills with high attention to detail and accuracy. Experience collaborating with developers, designers, and product stakeholders.

    Problem-solving Skills

    Able to use problem-solving skills to conduct research, investigate alternative solutions, and recommend solutions to improve services and products. Ability to monitor and maintain web content to ensure that content is accurate, up-to-date, accessible, and free of errors.


    Education and Years of Relevant Experience

    Bachelor’s degree in Digital Communications, Web, Design, English, or other relevant degree and a minimum of four years of relevant experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.


    Desired Skills

    • Skilled in industry-relevant design and illustration software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite). Has an understanding of photography and design and can make adjustments to photos and graphics ensuring they are the right quality, dimensions and format for web use.
    • Ability to do manipulation and conversion on ?les, such as converting ?le types, optimizing PDFs and making PDFs meet accessibility requirements.
    • Understanding of search engines to optimize front matter and metadata.
    • Experience with accessibility requirements such as Section 508 Compliance and accessibility tools (e.g., Siteimprove). Experience creating engaging and shareable digital content.
