We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join our team in the CNC machining industry. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in finance and accounting, with expertise in the CNC machining industry, proficiency in JobBoss and QuickBooks, and a proven track record of preparing GAAP financial statements, FP&A, managing audits, and coordinating tax compliance. The Controller will play a key role in overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and supporting strategic initiatives, including potential M&A integration activities.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting for the Company
- Manage the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close process, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of GAAP financial statements and the preparation of a monthly reporting package
- Manage the preparation of annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and cash forecasts
- Monitor and analyze financial performance, variances, and trends to provide insights and recommendations to senior management for decision-making
- Coordinate and lead the annual financial statement audit process, including preparation of audit schedules, liaison with external auditors, and resolution of audit findings
- Accounting for and managing the Company’s working capital including monitoring inventory levels, implementing appropriate inventory costing methods and related processes, planning and coordination of physical inventories, granting credit and managing customer collections, managing cash disbursements and accounts payable, and implementing strategies to improve cash flow and reduce financing costs
- Preparation and maintenance of the Company’s fixed asset ledger
- Working with all stakeholders to ensure that customer pricing/quoting is consistent with the Company’s gross margin objectives and that sales orders are billed correctly and timely
- Manage relationships with tax preparers and ensure compliance with tax laws and regulations, including preparation of tax estimates, timely filing of tax returns and provision calculations
- Managing the Company’s HR function including responsibility for payroll processing, employee benefits, employee relations, annual benefit renewals and related cost allocations, 401(k) management, and related compliance reporting
- Working with all stakeholders to make sure the Company is adequately insured and managing all related activities such as annual workers compensation audits, annual policy renewals, and managing certificate of insurance requirements
- Completion and filing of compliance reports/forms such as Wisconsin DFI filings, business registration renewals, and OSHA filings
- Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and mitigate financial risks and participating on the Company’s ISO team
- Provide leadership and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Support strategic initiatives and potential M&A activities by providing financial analysis, due diligence, and integration support as needed
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments, including operations, sales, and supply chain, to drive business performance and achieve company objectives
- Stay abreast of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in finance and accounting, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or MBA preferred
- 6 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, with at least 3 years of experience in a leadership position
- Expertise in the CNC machining industry, with a strong understanding of manufacturing operations, cost accounting principles, and industry-specific challenges and opportunities
- Proficiency in JobBoss and QuickBooks, with the ability to leverage these systems to streamline financial processes and reporting
- Previous experience in Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) roles, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Strong technical accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP principles; experience preparing and analyzing financial statements required
- Proven track record of managing financial audits, coordinating with external auditors, and resolving audit findings
- Experience coordinating with tax preparers and ensuring compliance with tax laws and regulations
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior management
- Strategic mindset, with the ability to provide financial insights and support strategic decision-making
- Detail-oriented, organized, and analytical, with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and analysis
- Proven track record of leading system implementations, including ERP systems, financial software, or other business systems
- We prefer candidates who can work on-site five days a week; however, we are open to considering individuals who require or prefer a hybrid work environment
