  • Queer Futures is a program of the nonprofit organization Better Tomorrow. Queer Futures’ vision is “A future of joy and belonging for community members across the spectrum of gender and sexuality.” Queer Futures is a brand new program that will provide a safe space, resources, support, and opportunities for LGBTQIA2S individuals and their allies in the Yampa Valley. Queer Futures will also work with healthcare providers, youth-serving organizations, and other community-serving organizations to improve health equity and foster safe spaces across the the Yampa Valley for LGBTQIA2S folks.


    From weekly discussion groups to fun social networking events, we create a safe space, mentally and physically, for LGBTQIA2S folks and their allies of all ages, socio-economic backgrounds, and cultural backgrounds. 


    Community members with particular needs have the option to speak with staff one-on-one for individual support. We maintain resources and relationships with community partners to improve LGBTQIA2S community members’ safety, stability, and wellbeing outside of the resource center. 


    JOB SUMMARY:

    The Queer Futures Program Coordinator’s primary responsibilities for planning and implementing weekly events and programs, and facilitating outreach to increase awareness of services and the number of participants in programs. They will be present to assist volunteers, provide one-on-one support for program participants when necessary, and foster a safe space during drop-in hours. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for outreach to increase participation in events and awareness of Queer Futures’ programs and resources. The Program Coordinator will foster relationships with community partners to bring their programs and services into the resource center, and reciprocate by bringing Queer Futures events, programs, and training to their facilities, staff, and clientele.



    KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:

    • Plan and oversee weekly programs and activities that support the wellbeing and a sense of belonging for LGBTQIA2S individuals and their allies.
    • Foster a safe space and supportive relationships between program participants, staff, and volunteers. 
    • Lead age-appropriate group activities, including those emphasizing joy, fun, education, safety, community building, and community engagement,
    • Enforce community guidelines consistent with organizational goals and mission utilizing the principles of restorative and transformative justice.
    • Demonstrate leadership to ensure appropriate conduct, risk management, and trust of participants.
    • Actively engage new participants utilizing in-person and online outreach.
    • Create social media content to promote events and resources.
    • Assist in management of resource center and volunteers.
    • Evaluate programs on a continual basis to ensure programs/activities are relevant and meet the needs and interests of the participants, as well as the goals of the program.
    • Oversee proper record keeping and reporting including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.
    • Purchase supplies and snacks in accordance with approved budget.
    • Communicate with parents, guardians, and other important adults in the lives of youth participants.
    • Foster mutually beneficial partnerships with community organizations and schools.
    • Provide one-on-one support for folks in need of specific individualized assistance, resources, or crisis intervention.
    • Participate in agency-wide JEDI (Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) meetings and initiatives.
    • Assist in planning and managing Pride events and fundraising during the month of June.
    • Queer Futures is a new program, and other duties and opportunities will arise as it continues to grow and develop. 
    • The Program Director will work closely with the Program Coordinator to identify their educational and professional goals, and can tailor their duties within reason to support their goals pursuant to the needs of the program.

      • Provide and accept constructive feedback to/from supervisors, peers, volunteers, and youth participants
      • Operate with a trauma-informed care approach
      • Understand the principles of restorative and transformative justice as they relate to holding participants, volunteers, and community partners accountable to community guidelines and organizational values
      • Knowledgeable in Microsoft 365 and/or able to learn quickly



        SCHEDULE:

        40 hours per week

        Regular evening and weekend hours required

        During Pride month, June, we will need all hands on deck. Odd hours will be required and vacation time will be limited during Pride month.



        PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/DEMANDS:

        Standing, walking, repetitive motions, bending, stretching and able to lift 40lbs without issue. 



        TRAVEL:

        Ability & willingness to travel to and from Resource Center in Steamboat Springs and reliably and occasionally travel to facilitate satellite program in Hayden and other locations within Routt County. Better Tomorrow provides professional development opportunities



        EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

        • High School diploma or GED
        • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required
        • Experience working with teens and young adults
        • Experience planning events and activities
        • Current CPR & First Aid certifications or the ability to obtain
        • Screening Requirements: Criminal Background Check, Fingerprinting
